Shift meeting this Wednesday at 6:30pm

Hello Bike Lovers.

Your next SHIFT meeting is this Wednesday the 5th at 6:30pm.

All are welcome.

Please email me directly if you have items you would like to add to
the agenda (whether or not you plan on attending).

You don't have to have any reason to come other than your love of bikes
but
remember--Pedalpalooza is less than 6 months away! ...

This meeting is NOT at a bar. Feel free to bring whomever you want
and whatever you'd like to eat or drink. *smile*

3305 SE 54th

It's the white house on the corner of SE 54th and Franklin. It's not
too far. I promise.

Feel free to bring your bikes around the back.

See you in a few days!

Meghan.

Cycle facility of the month

Whenever I encounter a weirdness in our PDX cycling infrastructure, I
remember to look at this site for inspiration. I particularly like
the challenge shown in Feb 2009.

Kool Yule ride report

Belated report for the Kool Yule Ride 24 Dec:

About 15 intrepid awesome cyclists braved the fierce blasting east wind and gathered with their festive bikes and holiday outfits for the semi-annual Kool Yule ride along the Alameda Ridge.  Thanks, you wonderful fabulous folks!  Although some grinches didn't have their yard lights on (rendering potions of the route moot), most did, and our eyes were soon filled with a wondrous glow:

(the first 36 pics are from the ride, then it's other stuff)(and yes, I know I need a tripod)

Afterwards we gathered at the Kraizy Krissmas Kottage for hot cider and cookies and a nice warm-up before the ride home.

The End

those Brits: very dry. I like the big lump of concrete in the bike lane
on the ramp down from the Broadway bridge, S bound. Things like that
pretty much make it clear that somebody is not taking you seriously.
Still and all, nobody seems to have died.

Who REALLY pays for Highways? NOT drivers, report finds.

A recent American report shows in detail how drivers DO NOT pay for the
roads/highways that they use. The author also provides some insight on WHY
the 'useful fiction' of drivers paying is so persistent, despite all the
evidence to the contrary.

While based on the USA situation, most of the elements of the author's
analysis look to apply equally to the Canadian situation.
