[Ebbc-Talk] Candidate(s) need for BART board

Fellow cyclists,

Please consider running for a seat on the BART board of directors.

The filing deadline for people who want to run for the BART board of directors is Friday, August 6.

In District Two, the incumbent, Joel Keller, is so far, the only one to file papers.
Filing fee is $750. (more on this later) You do not have to collect signatures.
Just pay the fee and file. It can be done on line.

The pay for being on the BART board of directors is $600 per month (for attending the meetings).

You must reside in the district to run for the board seat of that district.
District Two is fully within Contra Costa County. It includes Pinole, part of El Sobrante, Hercules,
Martinez, North Concord, Bay Point, Pittsburg, Antioch, Oakley, Brentwood, Bethel Island, and
Discovery Bay.
District Two does not nclude Clayton, but it goes from there south to the Alameda County Line
and east to the eastern boundary of Contra Costa County.

A transportation activist who, alas, lives two blocks outside of District Two boundaries, is unhappy with
the incumbent and the fact that he is running unopposed. He would run if he lived in the district.
As it is, he is willing to help out with the filing fee, with the writing of the candidate statement,
and with campaigning and fund raising. e-mail him at
GreenReports@... if you are interested.
You would have to attend the candidate nights and speak. Of course, in the unlikely event that you
were elected, you'd have to serve on the BART board! This offer is on the up and up.

Call me if you want to talk about it. (925) 439-5848

[Ebbc-Talk] Seeking Awesome Valet Bike Parking Volunteers for Best of the East Bay, this Friday

Hi All,

On August 6, the East Bay Express celebrates its winners of the 2010 Best of
the East Bay readers’ poll and editors’ picks all along the Jack London
Square waterfront. Over 20,000 guests are expected to attend and salute the
best ideas, products and services that are borne out of the East Bay region.

Last year, the Bicycle Coalition crowned the Best of the East Bay Party the
*most pedalicious* event of the year - we parked tons of bicycles! We'll be
doing valet bike parking again in 2010, and now we know: we need lots of
volunteers at this rockin' party to park a multitude of bikes. Please sign
up for a shift at this link: *http://www.ebbc.org/?q=node/7277* . We're well
covered on the first shift, but we especially need volunteers for the second
and third shifts. EBBC staff Dave Campbell will be pedaling the racks on one
of the EBBC racks; he and I (your faithful EBBC outreach coordinator) will
be there all night, parking bikes and doing EBBC outreach - join us!
Thanks,
Carrie

Re: [Ebbc-Talk] Seeking Awesome Valet Bike

I should add that I usually have more fun parking bikes and spreading EBBC
gospel than going to the events themselves. There's nothing like being
surrounded by a multitude of bikes, trailers, and the occasional skateboard
(we accept all foot-powered transport). The bike corral will be bustling this
Friday. EBBC needs your help! Oh, and the gratitude we get from attendees is
nice too.

Re: [Ebbc-Talk] Seeking Awesome Valet Bike Parking Volunteers for Best of the East Bay, this Friday

Hi again,

Two things: our listserve doesn't allow for direct click-able links, so to
volunteer, please copy and paste this address into your browser:
http://www.ebbc.org/?q=node/7277

And this just in: Volunteers get a free drink ticket! It's going to be a
huge and rockin' party, so stop by, volunteer (extra points for volunteering
the 2nd and 3rd shifts), and get ready to enjoy the festivities.

[Ebbc-Talk] Bike Sharing is a "well-disguised" effort aimed at "converting Denver into a UN community" ClimateProgress.org 8/4/2010

Colorado Tea Party candidate Dan Maes: Bike-sharing is a “well-
disguised” effort aimed at “converting Denver into a United
Nations community.”
August 4, 2010

dan-maes-bike-sharing-is-a-well-disguised-effort-aimed-at-converting-
denver-into-a-united-nations-community-”/

Three months ago, Denver Mayor and Colorado gubernatorial candidate
John Hickenlooper (D) helped start an ambitious bike share program
that has already attracted 14,000 memberships and been a big
success. As TP reports, one of Hickenlooper’s opponents in the
Governor’s race sees something sinister lurking behind the mayor’s
policies:

Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes is warning voters that
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper’s policies, particularly his efforts
to boost bike riding, are “converting Denver into a United Nations
community.”

“This is all very well-disguised, but it will be exposed,” Maes
told about 50 supporters who showed up at a campaign rally last week
in Centennial.

Maes said in a later interview that he once thought the mayor’s
efforts to promote cycling and other environmental initiatives were
harmless and well-meaning. Now he realizes “that’s exactly the
attitude they want you to have.”

Re: [Ebbc-Talk] Candidate(s) need for BART board

Jon,

Thank you for your confidence. I reside within the district, but, alas, fear that I am unelectable
because of some indiscretions in my younger days. So, no, I can't run.

Sincerely,

~0le
