[Ebbc-Talk] Dutch 1935 school bike safety film: Street Skills!

Bikies,

Bike safety education in schools is not new--at least in the Netherlands. Link #1 below is to
a 1935 on-the-road school bike safety test, The second link is to a more recent (2008) version.

The Dutch poster of this email says his 1978 experience was similar to the 1935 film...

Here in the Netherlands every schoolchild in the age of 10 or 11 need to take a traffic participation exam on
bike. I found this you tube movie from 1935 showing the
exam.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dbagcq_qfs&feature=related
My recollection from taking this exam in 1978 is actually not that much different...
Check also this example from 2008: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4J5havWlf8

Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Suspect Arrested)
UCPD crime report # 10-02127
http://police.berkeley.edu/crimealerts/2010/10-052810-37NC.htm

East-West Fire Trail June 1, 2010

On Friday, May 28, 2010 UCPD received a report of an assault with a
deadly weapon which had occurred around 6 weeks earlier. The assault
occurred on a Sunday on the East-West Fire Trail located in the hills
above campus. The victims, two non-affiliated White males, reported
the crime after hearing of similar incidents occurring to bicyclists
on the fire trail. The victims were riding their bicycles westbound on
the trail when they encountered the suspect walking in the opposite
direction. The suspect was holding a handsaw and cut one of the
victims across the chest with the saw. The victims asked the suspect
why he had attacked them. He told them they should not be riding their
bicycles on the trail. The victims positively identified the suspect
from a photograph. UCPD contacted the suspect who admitted to holding
a saw in front of some bicyclists on a trail and contacting one of
them with the saw. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody.
One of the victims suffered minor injuries during the assault.
Additional charges may be filed from similar incidences on the fire
trail including one reported in a crime alert on May 6, 2010.

The suspect is described as:

[Ebbc-Talk] Two cyclists stabbed after holiday ride; one in critical condition Florida Times Union (Jacksonville, FL) May 31, 2010

Two cyclists stabbed after holiday ride; one in critical condition

Source URL: http://jacksonville.com/news/crime/2010-05-31/story/two-
bicyclists-stabbed-jacksonville-one-critical-condition

By Matt Galnor
An annual Memorial Day bicycle ride landed three men in the hospital
— two cyclists who were stabbed and the suspect who’ll be charged
in the attack.

One of the cyclists was in critical condition Monday at Shands
Jacksonville, said Sgt. Robert Hurst of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s
Office. Police did not identify any of the three men Monday.

Hurst said police have varying accounts of what happened just before
11 a.m. in the parking lot of Florida State College at
Jacksonville’s Kent Campus.

Jim Wright of Orange Park was among about 25 riders in the front
group and said everything started when the cyclists finished their 60-
mile route and pulled onto the service road leading into the college
— the starting and finishing point for the ride.

A man driving a pickup truck brushed up against one of the cyclists
and another rider started yelling at the driver, Wright said.

The driver followed the group into the parking lot, got out of his
truck and moved toward one of the cyclists, Wright said.
