[ebbc-talk] oaktown BPAC

Tunnel? Park? eLockers & racks? Bike plan update?

oh my

It's hard to make it, but that 3rd Thursday Oakland
BPAC Mtg in City Hall is hard to beat! It's all here,
reliably, online. I'd guess few BPACs around the Bay
can say that.

[ebbc-talk] Save Oakland Critical Mass?

Does anyone know any details of Police arrests at Oakland critical mass last month?
The previous post propted me to do a search which resulted in a hit at BCLU attached below:

Save Oakland Critical Mass

Oakland Critical Mass meets on the first Friday of each month. On February 2, 2007,
Oakland Police, using a helicopter and numerous squad cars, blocked traffic to detain
nonviolent and peaceful protesters. A large number of citations were issued.

Demonstrators intend to continue and are decrying this misuse of public resources.
At a time when global climate change is rapidly getting out of control, and crime
in Oakland is at an all-time high, how can suppressing the long-standing
tradition of Critical Mass demonstrations make any sense at all?

BCLU is supporting the demonstrators and investigating the incident.

Re: [ebbc-talk] Save Oakland Critical Mass?

Nobody was arrested. About 20 riders were stopped for blowing a red
light at Broadway and 5th. A big overreaction with 8-10 cops plus
helicopter. One cop in particular was freaking out, most of the rest
were pretty chill. One rider was threatened with arrest for not
producing i.d. Eventually everyone provided i.d., everyone received
tickets, and the ride proceeded. A big turnout tomorrow would be great.

Damn, I'd be rolling in the dough up there ... I checked my odometer
the other day and am about to his 2k of mostly commuter miles from
just the last few months!

Does not apply to existing bike commuters. And it's only for ten
selected people.

http://www.511contracosta.org/bicycle.html

"511 Contra Costa is looking for 10 enthusiastic commuters who do not
currently use a bicycle to get to work, but who own a bicycle and
would like to give bike commuting a try.

"As a participant, youll agree to incorporate bicycling into your
commute from May through October 2007 and keep track of how often you
use your bicycle during that period.

"511 Contra Costa will provide the 10 lucky participants with
training, support, bicycle gear and financial incentives such as free
transit tickets and Safeway gift cards. The more you ride, the more

Re: [ebbc-talk] Oakland Critical Mass - When - Where

That reminds me, one morning a couple weeks ago I passed by a taxi
critical mass on that corner. There was a long line of taxis double
parked on the north side of 14th and they were starting to back up
onto Broadway. It looked like some kind of strike or protest. Does
anyone know what this was about?
