Re: Toothbrush

That's nothin'. For overnight trips, I take a toothpick and split it
down the middle and take the just the smaller half -- now THAT is
LIGHT ;)

UPDATE:> Gear Tests Completed at BackpackGearTest.org in June and July 2005

Hi

For those interested, BackpackGearTest.org has completed the following
product tests during June and July, 2005. These tests are undertaken for no
monetary gain by BackpackGearTest.org and are undertaken in the field by
backpackers (hikers, trampers, bushwalkers) normally over a six month
period . The tester, upon completing the reporting requirements gets to
keep the gear at the end of the test.

Just click on the link to be taken to the test reports.

Re: 3 litre pot

If I wanted something that big and was really watching weight, I think
I would find an aluminum bowl and use foil for a lid. A supercheap
bowl will be reeealllllly light, and should be sturdy enough to last
for at least one trip. You have mittens - no need for a handle... The
curved sides should help get more flame contact. Shoot a thin layer of
bbq black paint on the bottom if you wanna be high tech. Anyway, just
an idea.

RE: Re: Toothbrush

I bought these. Very stiff bristles. They really work over your gums and
not in a good way. Didn't like them at all. I'll stick with a regular
toothbrush and break the handle in half if need be.

Re: Toothbrushes

I think we're all aware that conventional backpackers enjoy mocking
light and ultralight backpackers as fanatics who alter their toothbrush
handles. On this list we have hikers in all stages of lightening their
weight. So, I'd like to point out that the _first_ items a backpakcer
should consider lightening are the backpack itself, the sleeping
system, and shelter system. By lightening those items a backpacker can
often save pounds of weight.

Altering something like a toothbrush can perhaps save a few grams, and
isn't worth considering until you're trying to get your base burden
below 5 pounds. Don L.
