Fwd: Four shows!

Some pretty awesome shows coming up in the Seattle area.

Sadly I will have to miss Hell's Bellows (gonna be in LA...) - a four
piece accordion band - if you love accordion this is the most awesome
quartet ever, if you hate accordion this is an absolute nightmare.

Of course I'm partial to Ivory in Ice World...

Ken Jacobson's instruments are often beautifully crafted and often
sound just as beautiful, or they are crudely crafted and delightfully
uncontrollable.

And Scott's music is pretty.

Fwd: [dorkbotsea-announce] Coming soon: stability for Dorkbot-Seattle!

Sea-Dorkbot meetings are now at University of Washington's Division of Design, in the School of Art.  Word.

Good line-up of topics too.

Subject: [dorkbotsea-announce] Coming soon: stability for Dorkbot-Seattle!

With the beginning of the new decade, dorkbot-sea is happy to restart our series of monthly meetings.

As per tradition, we will be meeting on the first Wednesday of the month, from 7:00 - 10:00 pm, beginning in February. Thanks to the support of the UW's Division of Design, in the School of Art, we'll be able to use a space on campus for the meetings. (We are grateful to Professor Karen Cheng for this generous offer.)

Here is the schedule of themes for these meetings:
• February 3rd: Fab Lab: An evening of speakers about and hopefully a demonstration of the DIY fabrication technologies that have recently become accessible to all dorks, even those on tight budgets.
• March 3rd: Kit Night: Learn about soldering and basic electronics with a choice of simple kits and some experienced electronics tinkerers to help you out.
• April 7th: Education: Speakers sharing experience about running educational events.
• May 5th: DIY Biology: Technology hacking is old school! Learn about the possibilities now open for hacking biotech and genomics.

Once we finalize the arrangements for the venue and our speakers, we'll send out more detailed information.

Keep an eye on http://dorkbot.org/dorkbotsea/ and twitter user <at> dorkbotsea for more info, and watch for a brand new website to be launched there in the near future.

Processing course at 911 Media Arts Center

Howdy Y'all,

I'll be teaching a course in Processing this March (the programming
language, not the post-traumatic psychology technique).

Take a look, if you always wanted to program but don't know where to
start this is the course for you!:

http://www.911media.org/education/classes/processing-beginning.html

Processing: Beginning Programming for Creatives
Instructor: Joseph Gray
4 Tuesdays: March 16 - April 6; 6:30 - 9:30 PM

Members Price: $275
Non Members Price: $335
This course is designed for creative thinkers who are interested in
expressing their ideas through code or creating custom software
tools. The course focuses on Processing, a coding language developed
specifically for artistic applications. It is easy to learn for non-
programmers yet powerful enough for seasoned programmers to rapidly
develop concepts. Processing has the added benefit of being a free
and open source tool that is used by a large and very active community
of creative minds internationally. Learning Processing begins with
very simple ideas like drawing basic geometry and colors on screen,
but can expand in many directions ranging from physical interfaces to
complex networked applications. http://processing.org

This course includes the text "Learning Processing" by Daniel
Shiffman. Register early to ensure your copy on the first day. Class
limit: 8.

Illustrator needed

A friend of mine is in immediate need of an illustrator. The style is
that of comic books from the 60s.

If anyone knows of one, please let me know.

Thanks,
