I have been on both sides of that kind of audit. The last time because the company received a notice from whatever the name of that software licensing watchdog agency is. The wanted to make sure that any and all software installed was actually licensed. Sounds like you have a much harder go of it though. I know from looking at the lists the auditing software creates that the average PC runs a stupid number of executables, or has them on the hard drive, which are actually OS or otherwise related to the general function, but have no "official" listing anywhere. I wish MS and others had an output list of what .exe files and version numbers for those files were installed with each application, upgrade, etcetera.
