Hi, add a win.debug("here") line at the beginning of ShowInfo.powerpro and
open the debug window, you will see exactly how often your script is
called.

I seldom use *info in labels, because it gets called once every 1 (or 2 if
gray check) seconds. I prefer to use *info in tooltips because it gets
called only when the tooltip is displayed.

You could do this easily with the KeyTrap plugin. Make two versions of
your keytrap.ini file (e.g., keytrap.1 and keytrap.2), one of which has
the key definitions you want to load "on demand." Use a script to copy
the appropriate one as keytrap.ini and then execute KeyTrap.ReloadIni().

You can check if PowerPro can work with a key by going to
configure|keys|new key. Click on the "virtual key" field and type the
key. If PowerPro can see the key, a value will appear in the edit
boxes.

If nothing happens, PowerPro cannot recognize the key.

Nothing happens for Fn keys on my laptop.

Possibly keytray may be able to handle them.

License terms

The PowerPro Web site says "(Completely free! No catch!)"

When you install PowerPro 4.7, the setup license conditions say (in
part) "PowerPro may not be sold nor be used in any profit-oriented
endeavour without the express written permission of the author..."

I read that as partially inconsistent. Which is right? I sent an
e-mail to Bruce asking for permission to use PowerPro at work, but
haven't had a reply (maybe he didn't receive it), so thought I had
better enquire further.

Thanks,

Robert Bull

Sorry, I forgot to change that. The help just says its free for any
use, as it is.

So you can use it wherever you want.

Most of the mail I receive at the email address posted here is spam, so
sometimes I miss real emails.

But this group is the best way to reach me about PowerPro.

PowerPro Crash

I think I am a big power user of PowerPro for many many years and have
a fairly complex configuration and numerous scripts that I use
regularly. However, for the past 3-4 months, I find that PowerPro
crashes/freezes randomly with no advance warning or error message.
When this happens, my computer is totally frozen out, with mouse and
keyboard inoperative. I can display the task manager with ctl-alt-del
but cannot end any task and have no option but reboot.

I have not noticed any pattern to these crashes but they seem to occur
generally right after I switch to a different virtual desk (I do this
through a set of scripts). I saw another thread about dual core
possibly causing crashes and my problems began about the time I got a
new dual core machine but I am not sure this is the problem. I also
use PowerPro on at least one other PC with dual core but the
configuration is much simpler.

I upgraded to 4.7 version but this appears to have made no change to
the frequency of my crashes.

I know I have not given much information to diagnose my problem but I
would appreciate any ideas you may provide to diagnose the issue. You
can't believe how totally dependent I am on PowerPro.

I don't post here very often, so let me take this opportunity to
profusely thank Bruce for this wonderful, wonderful piece of software.
It is totally unbelievable that he is giving away free such an
absolute marvel of a utility.

It would be interesting to know if PowerPro is an infinite loop. What
is CPU usage of PowerPro when you have to reboot?

But regardless of this, the only way I can think of to try to diagnose
is to insert logging statements in your (commonly used) scripts to
write information to a file at key events.

For example, you could write the script name, date, time to a logging
file whenever the script starts and whenever it ends.

Of course, use a common file for all log output.

Then when you have a crash, reboot without starting PowerPro and
inspect the logging file to see what script(s) were running. Then add
further logging statements to these to try to isolate which statements
were executing.
