This is so cool! The current documentation is everything but complete
and each new piece helps to make it up, what is really
necessary, I think.

I'm really hoping that your patch is going into the next release of
sawfish.

That would be really great.

Virtual desktops

In sawfish 1.0.1 I can have one workspace with 2x2 virtual facets,
but can't see how to get this with later versions.

Viewports are now disabled by default, AFAIK. However, if you really
can't live without them, you can get them back by manually adding some
code to your ~/.sawfishrc

There should be a file called "OPTIONS" distributed with sawfish
sources, it describes all the relevant variables.

You can get viewports by adding the following to your .sawfishrc:

(setq customize-command-classes '(default viewport))
(setq viewport-dimensions '(2 . 2))

I think that is the correct syntax, correct me if I'm wrong...

Virtual Desktops

Haveing just rebuilt an old Reshat 7 system on RedHat 9, I'm trying to get
back all my old functions. I'm used to haveing 4 viewports, with the desk
switcher divided in 4, and being able to drag windows between the 4 ports.

If I set 2x2 viewports in .sawfishrc , I can drag windows, but the desk
switcher only shows one at a time.

If I set 4 workspaces, the switcher divides, but I can't drag windows
between them.

Is there a way to get both ?

It really seems like RedHat 9, or Gnome 2, or both, has big steps backwards.

Use other switcher (also known as pager), one that supports viewports,
so you can have your 2*2 continuous area. Or configure sawfish to
change desktop (not viewport) when you hit borders, so Gnome2 switcher
is happy.

Windows jump around when changing workspace

Hey all,

Just upgraded to gnome 2.4 on mandrake cooker. Sawfish has been working
wonderfully in the betas. The new peferences setup is quite nice.
However, when I move between desktops the windows jump around. I've got
12 workspaces defined in 2 rows of 6 columns. Edge-flipping now works
perfectly. However, when I move using the GNOME panel pager, the windows
are not where they were. They jump around without any logic that I can
figure. Anyone else have this problem? let me know off the list, thanks,

how to hide windows permanently on startup

Hi,

2 problems:

How do I start a programm hidden? Sadly the 'Matched Windows'-Tab
in the sawfish-ui has no option for this.

Although I hide a window with the hide-window-function, the window
becomes visible if I change back to the workspace where the window
  was created.

I thought about starting the windows iconified but unfortunately my
target-windows (gkrellm and the sawfish-pager) don't allow this.

Thank you.
