Points to /usr/share/aclocal while the file was in /usr/local/share/aclocal. Don't know how that came
about... Moving it indeed worked fine -- thanks.

By taking the capplet subdir out of Makefile solved that other problem cleanly.

Now I only have to find some time to rebuild all my options manually :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

Compiling sawfish on Solaris 8

I rencently installed the GNOME 2.0 Beta2 package from Sun and I am
now trying to compile sawfish-1.1a-gtk2 and I have not been very
successfull.

Take note this Solaris 8 system use to run sawfish 1.0.1 with a
batch of home compiled GNOME 1.4 packages.

After installing the Sun packages, I re-compiled and installed:

   gmp-4.1
   librep-0.16.1
   rep-gtk-0.16

It went well. Now that I'm trying to compile sawfish-1.1a for
gtk-2.0, I'm running into issues:

During the ./configure:

checking for rep-gtk libglade wrapper... no
configure: WARNING: Can't load rep's libglade wrapper, not building themer
checking for rep-gtk GNOME wrappers... no
configure: WARNING: Can't load rep's gnome wrappers

During the make:

    SAWFISHLISPDIR=. SAWFISHEXECDIR=../src/.libexec SAWFISHDOCFILE=../DOC ../src/sawfish --batch
--no-rc compiler -f compile-batch sawfish/wm.jl
    set -e; for d in sawfish/wm; do \

Crash report

Red Hat Linux 8.0, with the Sawfish packages off of the RH CDs. No

not really, unfortunately. It looks like the malloc data structures got
trashed somehow. If it happens regularly, one way to try and track it
down might be to use a malloc debugger, e.g. valgrind or just

Sawfish & RH8.0

Can anyone help me make sawfish my default window manager for RH8.0?
I've been reading through the documentation, and have tried editing my
~/.xinitrc, as well as running gconf-editor, but neither worked --
metacity is still loading, and i'm sick of it! :)

thanks in advance

Sawfish & Bluecurve theme

Another question - has anyone setup RH's new 'bluecurve' theme with
sawfish? Where do I begin?

thx

Make sawfish the window manager and then save the gnome session on exit.

Well, one of these days I'm going to get around to installing RH 8 on
either my home or work machine, at which point I'll have some motivation
to do a bluecurve theme for sawfish. It would be quite easy to do a
static pixmap theme; just grab the pixmaps from the metacity theme,
throw them at sawfish-themer, and see what sticks. When/if I get around
to it, I'll probably do something a bit more sophisticated with
recoloring and titlebar resizing, and button positioning, but I'll have
to see.

In SuSE 8.1 is sawfish broken!

Hallo,

first must I you congratulate for one very good update to SuSE Linux 8.1!
Almost everything works from beginning on and the change was nearly painless.

Only one program is broken, and therefor write I you on english because I
also copy in it's list. Maybe is the bug not in SuSE but in sawfish:

The configuration is broken. I found this out because I use viewports, but
they don't work. Then I have gone to the configuration to get it back. But
almost nothing is there!

I have had X11 many years and I changed from fvwm to sawfish because it
nicer was, and also viewports with workspaces at the same time could. Because I
know much X11 I had advanced option, but now it changed me to beginner, and
gives me no more the option!

Please correct this bug quickly! Without viewports my X11 is very little
useful like Windows! And such a sloppy configuration bug spoils the joy of my
new system very much, because I this program must use every day. And I have
no time to change my configuration to one other windowmanager, which maybe
not htis bug has.

thank you very much!
Thorsten

Sorry, this is no bug. All of this was done intentional. Viewports are
deprecated and thus are disabled by default. User levels where removed
from sawfish's code. Customizable options where trimmed to a bare
minimum and there's no (easy) way to get them back.

The good news is, you may get viewports back by editing your
~/.sawfish/rc. You may just search the archive of the sawfish mailing
list as this has been discussed extensionally. Someone also has
written some code in order to emulate viewports with workspaces.

There are some nicely commented configuration files out there. See for
example http://www.unfactored.org/sawfish/OPTIONS.
