[E-devel] autoconf

Have we officially abandoned autoconf-2.13? Imlib2 in CVS will not
build with it, and I bet it's not the only module that won't.

[E-devel] Neo gone crazy ...

Hi all.
Haven't sent a mail for ages... damn!

Well I've been trying to get the forum ( e1x.codewordt.co.uk ) into shape
with e.org. As I wasn`t that sucessful and felt e.org was leaking
colors for a nice forum mod. I was interested if i could simply hack
out a not tooo ugly
remake for e.org.

As for the sake of writing stuff twice here's the link to
the Blog entry containing todays effords:
http://neofeed.blogspot.com/

Few of those hanging in #edevelop have already seen the shots.

This is an idea. nothing in stone yet though I'd like some input on it. If that
does not distract from the edje working for LW this year.

I'm also interested in trying myself at some PR for E. If anyone has a
problem with me doing that. Please rase your hand :) If someone want
to join me. Sure thing.

Well We have planet now. Up on http://e1x.codewordt.co.uk/planet/
Sure it need some cleanup - seems not to like the Atom feeds from
blogger.com. But anyone who's interested in having his feed up in.
Come to #edevelop.

If someone, esp. you raster, wants to do some review of the feeds. I
think that should be fairly possible.

autoconf 2.13 didn't support the "executing default commands" part.
Try running autoconf-2.13 specifically (i.e., /usr/bin/autoconf-2.13)

ooh yeah - when i run 2.13 explicitly (even tho the default autoconf claims to
be 2.13) it screws up. hmmm bah fuck. i couldn't be arsed figuring this out.
i'll leave autosplat to someone else to fix so it works with 2.13 again. i'm
just sick of it all.

[E-devel] eOrg Facelift RFC

[Was: E-Org facelift - Now: eOrg RFC]

$ Moritz Angermann, v1, July 2nd 2004 $

what is this?
=============
This is about a possible Redising and reorganisation of
the eOrg Webrepresentation.
The idea is to generate a better publicity.
And more people to use e/eOrg/eApps. Yes this is about
PR. I'm not a PR expert but I'd like to try.

The Goal
========
The goal shall be to make e more friendly for user,
developer and themer. And give a better overview of the
whole e-project.

Let's go
========
As of now(irc of today) we would be having at least 3 modules.

o Some kind of server as integral part for datasupply.
o e.org website using the data supplied from the server.
o Some kind of Store/iTunes/RedCarpet like thingy.

e.org
=====
A general User, Developer, Themer seperation.
a scatched out layout idea can be found at http://neofeed.blogspot.com

Not to forget a major point of this - once an ap is installed
(which could be a pre-installed app from the distr, if we get our
wrappers written well) is the ability to install themes for each app easily.
We still do nto have a way to do this, and a handy list of themes that
can be installed with the click of a button seems very cool

RedHat put some weird mojo in their auto* stuff that used some weird
criteria to pick which version to actually run. Apparently it works a
bit too well.... ;-)

I agree, believe me. The only one of the auto* tools that deserves a
version number above 1.0 is libtool. They're a total fucking mess,
and I really hate dealing with them.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything better. imake is even
worse. :(

Don't sweat it. I'll beat it into submission again. I'll probably be
beating a number of packages into submission as I start packaging the
e17/* stuff for caos.

Re: [E-devel] eOrg Facelift RFC

Here's my take, others comment as you see fit.

This is not a good time to re-invent the wheel. LW is a month off,
we're getting bits slowly into place with hopes to have a good
showing... overhaul of the website doesn't make sense right now.
Granted, if your gonna overhaul the site, do it before the show, which
is why the layout was "upgraded" some time ago. However with 30 days
and counting a mass overhaul is a bad idea.
Furthermore, the proposed colors are... imho, a poor choice, we'll say.
The ideas you have are good ones, I think you've got some promising
ideas, but why can't we apply some new ideas to what we have rather than
completely re-implementing offsite?
We have forums (SF), we have lists (SF), not to mention that e1x has
been there for ages, and cuddletech as an E forum as well (admitadly,
it's fairly Solaris/ports specific). In our experience, I think it's
safe to say, forums haven't been a big win, and sure you can blame that
on them being offsite, but I don't see there being enough potential
there. Further, the Blogs idea is yet another good one, however we have
a big problem... most of us maintain our own blogs/news offsite and
don't update it very often. Okey, so planet is implemented and for
acouple weeks we're all into it and update more often, but that'll pass
in time.
The "News" page (and the whole site) are up for anyone with CVS access
to modify, folks can put anything at all that they want there, it's
always been that way.

Again, you've got some great ideas. I'd like many of them to work, but
what we need now is docs and code. The time that goes into implementing
blogs could be used creating new sample Edje's, or adding recipes to the
cookbook, or adding examples to pages already on the site, or improving

RH has this philosophy: upgrade! upgrade! upgrade!
