Re: hook_manage problem

Hi,

One question about awesome 3.0 on Debian : why it is only under the
Debian experimental release ? and not in Sid or Lenny ?
I think it limits the number of users.
Is it possible to get the package in Lenny release ?

debian Lenny package

Hi,

One question about awesome 3.0 on Debian : why it is only under the
Debian experimental release ? and not in Sid or Lenny ?
I think it limits the number of users.
Is it possible to get the package in Lenny release ?

Because it requires xcb-util 0.3 which I cannot upload to unstable
without making some ABI breakage, which is not welcome considering we
are about to release.

No, because it is frozen.

You can compile it yourself, it's not that hard. Just follow the ubuntu
tutorial in the wiki. You'll need to get a few dependences yourself
though; I did at least.

Slit / desklet area

Hello everyone ,)

First, I want to thank all the developpers for their work (merci Julien
D ! ,). I have test a lot of WM and Awesome seems one of the best for me.

But I have a question about the desklets handling : I used to work with
fluxbox where you can set an area at one border of the screen (aka the
"slit") where only "dock applications", desklets or system monitors can
be visible. I wonder if there is any possiblity to define such an area
in Awesome(3). I think I just a need a way to shrink the size of the
screen used by the automatic layout engine or a way to define a static
area/client directly inside a layout.
... or perhaps this features is not needed in awesome. Maybe it will be
simplier to replace conky/adesklets with some widgets/multiple titlebars
from awesome.

Any sugestions are welcome ,)

Johan, who like his keyboard but appreciates also some nice graphical
gadgets

P.S. : BTW, I tried to hide/unhide my titlebar with
mytitlebar.screen=nil || 1and when it re-appeared, the applications in
the system tray had disappeared. Don't know if this could be a real bug.

Hello,

I used also Fluxbox before, so I have the same problem. Awesome widgets are
nice, but I like the verbosity of my conky. So I would really appreciate any
suggestions, how I can create a custom layout, which leaves space for my
conky, which is drawn directly to the root of X.

Btw you did a great job with awesome. IMHO the learning curve could be a bit
less steeper with better documentation, though.

Regards,
Patrick

You may want to use screen padding.
screen[1]:padding({ right = 20 })

(not sure of syntax, double check)

I guess they crashed, see:

french translation of awesome 2.3.4 man pages

Hello,

I just finished the update of these man pages for the release 2.3.4 :
awesome, awesome-client, awesome_menu, awesome-message, awesomerc

I don't know where and how to put them on a server, so I send them on
that mailing list.

I updated also the french man pages wiki :

http://awesome.naquadah.org/wiki/index.php?title=Pages_de_manuel_(français)

By the way, on that page there is still a link named "awesome-menu"
which displays the man page in english, and it has nothing to do here .
I don't remove it because it is likely the page will be removed
completely from the wiki. Can somebody take it in charge ?

Now I will make the translations for the release 3.x .

Re: debian Lenny package

Hi
I've uploaded a debian package built from git to
http://liksom.info/awesome_20081102-1_i386.deb
It's a quick and dirty build and does not keep track of dependencies but
it installs happily on my Lenny system,
