Looks to me like this is it: 44b854977039eac770127dde7c591f779ebf1610

I don't really know how snapping works, but I don't *see* any difference when this is reverted.

Looks to me like we would get this problem any time a client.snap is called with a fixed_x or fixed_y argument.

The attached patch skips correcting geom.x or geom.y if fixed_x or fixed_y are passed, respectively.

Hm, can't you just move that if at the very end of the function, after the "geom.x = geom.x +..."? I think that
would look saner.

Nothing moving here with git master nor debian's 3.4.9, does anyone else see this?
(Also, only a single "Movie-Aspect undefined"-line")

imo 'if else' tells the story better, and doing a few less operations...

but then again I still don't understand why the whole function is run for fixed clients.

I digress. :)

I confirm the behavior on 3.4.9

I do get multiple "Movie-Aspect undefined" lines.

I haven't had a chance to chase down the bug yet, maybe tonight.

btw- as a workaround switching mplayer to `-vo sdl` (or probably anything not -vo x11) should hold it still

Around line 100 in default rc.lua there is a line that says:

if not c:isvisible() then
    awful.tag.viewonly(c:tags()[1])
end

Just remove it and you will get the expected behavior. I am not sure
what was I thinking when adding that line; doesn't seem to be serving
any great purpose there. Perhaps we should remove it. Uli?

You can have three column layout in awesome. The bundled tiling (tile
left, right) will do. All you need to know is awful.tag.incncol, and
awful.tag.incmwfact functions. They are bound to mod4 + control/shift
+ h and l in the default rc.lua (~ line 215) respectively. With,
incncol you can increase the number of column windows, and with
incmwfact you can resize master. You can even make these settings
permanent/default for a tag.

Ofcourse this is different from having a layout that does the same.
You won't have master in the middle either.

Uhm, I guess this was once supposed to be after the "client.focus = c" so that
it *only* switches tags when the client wouldn't be on any of the currently
focused tags. Dunno.
