[action required] Zope Contributor Agreement change

Hi all,

This is a last reminder for those current contributors to the Zope
software repositories on svn.zope.org who have not sent in the new
contributor agreement as outlined below. Please do so before June 26,
otherwise your write access will be removed.

Thanks!

  -----------------------------------------------

You may be aware that the copyright for software stored in the
software repositories on svn.zope.org has recently been assigned
to the Zope Foundation, from the earlier copyright holder Zope
Corporation. The old contributor agreements expressly assigned
a joint copyright to Zope Corporation for any software checked
into svn.zope.org repositories. With the Zope Foundation taking
over these copyrights, the agreement with the contributors needs
to change so that the Zope Foundation is the joint copyright
holder for all new code coming into the repositories.

For you as a contributor this means you need to submit a new
contributor agreement[1] if you want to stay on as an active
contributor to Zope and/or the other software hosted in the
repositories on svn.zope.org. Here's how:

  - download the new agreement[1]

Hi all,

Please exclude the mass-email, most of you will receive this more than
once, we're hoping to catch any current contributor whose email
address on zope.org is not current. Anyone who has svn.zope.org
checkin privileges and has not received personal email with the
content below, please read and follow the instructions, otherwise you
may find yourself without access.

Thanks!

OSCON 2009 Call For Participation ends Feb 3rd - No Zope proposals yet

Hi folks,

The deadline for the O'Reilly Open Source Convention Call For
Participation is Tuesday Feb 3rd.

OSCON will be held July 20-24 in San Jose, California.

As of today, there are no Zope-related proposals, so yours could have a
pretty good chance of acceptance. ;-)

There have been a lot of exciting developments in the Zope world in the
past year, and I for one would really like Zope to get more public
exposure. So please, write up your proposals and submit them before the
deadline!

For more information, see
http://conferences.oreilly.com/oscon
http://en.oreilly.com/oscon2009/public/cfp/57

Cheers,

- Michael Bernstein

Zope 3.4.0 Released!

Hi everyone,

It is finally here! Thanks goes to everyone who involved!

January 29, 2009 - The Zope 3 development team announces the Zope 3.4.0
release.

After 2 years of development, the Zope Foundation and the larger Zope
community is proud to announce the release of Zope 3.4.0.

The focus of the Zope 3.4 development effort has been the conversion from a
monolithic source tree, to a set of many small packages (eggs), that can be
used independently of each other. The core has been further stabilized through
numerous bug fixes, and many new add-on packages have been developed to
provide a richer development experience.

With this release also comes a renewed commitment to a short and reliable
release cycle of 6 months.

Packages and Eggs
-----------------

Zope 3 is now fully converted to an egg-based system. While some work still
remains, it integrates very well with the rest of the Python community. The
conversion to egg-based packaging also enables other Python developers to only
have to use small bits and pieces of the complete Zope software system. The
conversion means that Zope 3 developers do not use the classic Zope 3 tar-ball
release anymore. However, for your convenience, Zope 3 developers will provide
the classic Zope 3 tar ball releases for at least the 3.4 series and probably
for 3.5 as well.

zopeproject generated zope3 app and mod_wsgi

Hello there,

First off all, I don't have a blog so I'll be posting it here.

Yesterday I decided to setup a zopeproject generated app with mod_wsgi
and I would like to share my experience.
I am going to skip the part of setting up mod_wsgi with apache because
I think this very well documented.

My environment:

zopeproject generated app sitting at:

    /opt/zope3/app

using python located at:

    /usr/local

buildout-eggs located at:

   /opt/buildout-eggs

For testing purposes, I've added www.foo.com to my /etc/hosts so when
I tried to reach www.foo.com it would resolve to my local machine.

Then we have virtual hosting config (www.foo.com.config in my test case) :

WSGIRestrictStdout Off
WSGIPythonHome /usr/local

from the Zope 2 world to Zope 3 and Plone 3."

z3c.widget/megrok.form character encoding

hello,

i´m using megrok.form.fields.HTML field, which uses z3c.widget to render a tiny_mce editor. there
seems to be a problem with character encoding in some phase of the megrok.form.fields.HTML <> z3c.widget
<> tiny_mce interaction.

if i include a word with a latin character, like "grabación", in the text i´m editing with the tiny_mce
editor, and save the form, the rendered html is displayed as "grabación"

but i´m not having any success tracking down exactly where these characters get encoded.

salud,
kevin

zope3 and zope.conf without the zodb

I've been using zope3 as a wsgi app, without a zodb. it bypasses the zodb publishing traversal via replacement of the published application, all of which can be managed in zcml.

One issue I've run into is configuring an app through zope.conf forces you to have an open zodb, because of the required attribute in zope.app.appsetup schema.xml

Allowing zope3 usage without a zodb attached, is basically a one line fix here. Would there be any objections to removing it?

cheers,

kapil

Let's move over to zope-dev

I think we have agreement (or an absense of anyone who is willing to
publicly admit to disagree) to retire this list and move over to zope-
dev. Let's do so. I'll wait a little while before trying to
actively prevent posts here. I suggest we let any existing threads
run out and start new threads on zope-dev.
