Re: Default Member Home Page Creation

I've located the following note dated 2004 from Alexander
Limi:

"Default text on member pages are now disabled,
since it just pollutes the search results. You
can insert the default text in 'homePageText.pt'
like before, the only difference is that it's
     disabled by default..."

This seems to indicate that the member home page feature
has been disabled by default since Plone 2.0.2.

If that is the case, does anyone know how to re-enable
it?

Any pointers, suggestions, or even vague hints are
appreciated.

Thanks.

Filesystem editing v ZMI editing woes

Sure - whenever you edit a 'file' from it's 'proper' location in Zope
through the ZMI, it is not automatically placed in the custom folder
beofre it allows you to edit it?

All I want to do and I mostly have success doing this until about now is:

- locate a file within the
/path/to/zope/server/Products/CMFPlone/skins/plone_login/login_next.py
- edit and save it via GUI
- refresh Plone site to see changes take effect

At the moment there seems to be some files I can do this with (eg
ploneCustom.css) and others I can't (plone_login/*) - I have to go into
the ZMI to do it.

It just seems completely inconsistent, but it wouldn't surprise me if it
was something I had done.

No, it is not - if you want to edit a skin file through the ZMI (either
directly or with the external editor) you need to first click the
Customize button to copy that item to your custom skin folder.

Re: projects product

Or you can make your own up using archetypes - plenty of tutorials. If you
need anything more specific (eg we needed a content type for recombinant
vectors) you'll have to go that way.

Re: Groups and Roles - Correct Design?

This is a long post. It took me ages to figure out the best way to use
workflows, placeful workflows, roles, groups, and sharing etc. Lots of
tutorials explaining what each is but when it comes to putting it all
together, especially when your requirements are a bit more complicated, they
are not adequate. See below for my solution as used on a large intranet.
It's a step-by-step guide and will hopefully help others design their own
solutions. I'm not a Plone expert!

Synopsis. Plone is being used in an intranet environment to allow file and
document sharing between members of projects within the organisation.
Everyone who has access to Plone is a staff member since the intranet is set
up behind one of the organisation's firewalls. However, content within each
project is potentially sensitive and must thus be hidden from non-project
members, whilst allowing all users to view the project folder itself. The
organisation is hierarchical in structure so there are certain users who
will have access to multiple projects. Also, there is a requirement for
senior-staff only areas within each project, which may be restricted to an
individual senior-staff member (i.e. the project leader).

I have successfully implemented the below strategy on a very large intranet.
It's not simple to set up and it's by no means the simplest way of
restricting access but for a site that requires multiple levels of control
it is extremely easy to manipulate as the site grows. The organisation I
designed this for is split into a series of divisions, with each division
containing a number of programmes, each programme containing a number of
sub-programmes and each sub-programme containing a number of projects. This
strategy allows you to:

- create a folder that anyone can view the contents of

ATAudio insufficient privileges error

I have a kind of puzzling error with ATAudio 0.6. I can add an audio
file to the plone site, but if I try to view it, I get the error
"insufficient privileges", but the user viewing the content has the
Manager role. I am especially puzzled by the value of
AUTHENTICATION_PATH as 'libits/virtual_hosting'. And why would I not be
allowed to access "content_type"? A full traceback is included below.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's my setup:

Zope 2.8.7-final
Plone 2.1.3
Archetypes 1.3.9-final
ATContentTypes 1.0.5-final
Python 2.3.5
Linux Fedora Core 4

ImportError: No module named PIL.Image (python, PIL, zope, mymediamanager)

hello!

after installing a zope instance (gentoo box), I emerged mymediamanager. My
zopectl debug
log follows:

PIL ('imaging' on gentoo) is already installed so I cannot understand how to
fix. Any help?..

stefano.
