ActivePak and Zope 2.6.0

Hi,
I needed a fresh install of Zope 2.6.0 / CMF 1.3 / Plone-Beta2. While
installing this I noticed that ActivePak seems to generate errors on the
serverlog while starting the server. I seem to remember that on the IRC it
was said that Activepack was no longer necessary with Zope 2.6.0, so I
removed it and everything seems to work fine.

- is this true and do I have a stable config now ?

Yes, ActivePak was a patch to fix a bug in Zope 2.5.1, it's not needed for
2.6.0. It's supposed to deactivate itself if you run 2.6.0, but some users
have seen problems, so we need to look into that.

In My Preferences, set "Display Names" to Yes. Alternatively, use the
rename facility and that will let you change the id too.

User groups.

Hi,

I'm new to Plone.
Is it possible to create user groups in Plone and assign security permissions to those groups, so far I was able to find this option only for users.

Thank you,

Alex Zimin

Migration Question

I saw that some migration changes were added to CVS this morning (morning
here in Seattle, WA anyway). I did a cvs -up and started Zope 2.6.0 for
Windows (win 2000). I have a site that I created on Sept 25 -- not really
sure what version, it was likely a cvs install.

When I view that site I get a __getitem__ attribute error and can't view
anything.

From the ZMI interface, the Plone Folder and Document icons are broken --
no images appear. The portal_skins/plone_images folder is empty -- on a
clean CVS install it has lots of gifs.

So I added the migration tool. And did a forced migration. Some files have
new date stamps -- including those plone folders I had created in the
earlier version of plone, but there are still no plone_images.

This is not a critical site, just me testing the migration machinery
before I absolutely need it. Are the missing gifs related to the
__getitem__ error? I cannot cut and past the images from a new Plone site,
even into a Custom folder.

Is there a way to add them via an external method or some other process?

I know that migration machinery is being developed, so this is really just
asking if there are steps I can take to help see what's working or not, or
finding out I should just wait a few more days.

Not quite: Zwiki 0.11 can use either DTML methods or ZPTs for it's "skin",
and the default main page layout is now implemented by a ZPT. You are
seeing zwiki's skin, not the CMF/plone skin, because Zwiki 0.11's CMF
support is preliminary/alpha and it does not make use of the CMF skins
mechanism. This will be true in 0.12 also.

It's still pretty easy to get the plone look for your wiki though.
Create a standard_wiki_header DTML method in your wiki folder or in
portal_skins/custom, and customize it so that it includes
standard_html_header. My minimal header for a ploneish wiki is just::

 <dtml-return standard_html_header>

HTML files

I am looking for a way to display a directory of html files that are in a
user folder, is there such a tool? The user should be able to choose which
file to view inside my plone site.

Group handling is scheduled for Plone 1.1. In the meantime, you can use
products like NuxGroups to accomplish much of the same.

Please avoid posting HTML to the list.

Beta3

I have tried the beta2 installer for windows but after following this list for a week or so felt I should try out the beta3. Got the download from the cvs branch but wasn't sure how to update my istallation.

So far, I've copied it in and refreshed the product. Didn't see things like 'navtree_properties' so I figured I hadn't done much. I tried adding the migration tool and ran it but didn't see much either. So, I simply created a new instance of the site. Now I see the beta3 improvements but have lost one key element, the collector.

Am I missing something on updating a beta2 install to beta3? I can't search the list archive (or at least can't figure it out) and tried searching the plone site as well. Looked through the plone book too.

I am also very interested in the presentation logic for the collector that the plone site uses. I need to pitch this product next week to my Director of Quality as I try to get them to notice Zope/CMF/Plone as a tool set for future development. If I could put plones display logic into my beta2 install for now it would be good enough for this presentation.

Thanks in advance, I'll keep digging and playing in the interim.
