Working Copy Support (Iterate) 1.2.3 doesn't work with plone 3.3 RC 4 (rc 5)

Hi all,
When I try to create a new plone instance an add the Working Copy
Support (Iterate) 1.2.3 product it doesn't work: no "create new copy"
appears in state menu

In the Add/Remove Products panel, between the installed products I see

Working Copy Support (Iterate) 1.2.3

    * Adds working copy support (aka. in-place staging) to Plone.
    * Product Description
      <http://localhost:7080/test1/portal_quickinstaller/prefs_install_product_readme?filereadme=plone.app.iterate>

    * Install log
      <http://localhost:7080/test1/portal_quickinstaller/plone.app.iterate/prefs_installed_product_overview>

    * This product has been upgraded. Old profile version was *unknown*.
New profile version is *1.2.3*. There is no upgrade procedure
defined for this add-on. Please consult the product documentation
for upgrade information, or contact the product author.

I installed Plone with the 3.3 RC 4 unified installer.
I tried also to get the latest versions using, in the buildout.cfg, the
line:

extends = http://dist.plone.org/release/3.3rc5/versions.cfg

What can I do?

Thanks

I've seen this type of behavior on servers where I have failed to set
permissions on the file system correctly. If plone/zope are running as a
particular user, that user needs to have read/write access to files like the
z2 log, the Data.fs file and so on. If it hasn't got the correct
permissions, the process will respawn about nine or ten times and then just
give up and fail. This sounds a lot like the trouble you're seeing here.

I run buildout-based instances, and in my case, the plone/zope user needs to
have rw to the 'var' directory of the buildout. Check this first.

Re: Plone on linux keeps dying

I had that myself the other day. I had started a Plone instance as root user (sudo) through an init.d startup script, then it failed to restart again at the Data.fs.lock file was owned by root. I changed permissions on everything in the filesystem folder, and then was able to start the cluster again.

I may be wrong here, but if zope cannot open a port because something else
is already listening there, it will fail.  This usually gives an error
message, though, so it seems likely that your process isn't even getting as
far as attempting to open the port.

Q> How to organize several plones ?

Hello all,
I plan to host several plone sites for customers, all of them a little
different, with different products and theming.

The Box is a linux box with several virtual maschines. I wonder about the
best way to organize these several Plone Sites during development, staging
and production.

I assume a version control system for buildouts and own filesystem-based
products.

I see the follwing options:
A) 1 Machine - 1 Zope - 1 Plone, either installed as root or as user

B) 1 machine - several Zopes, each with 1 Plone, installed as user

C) 1 machine - x Zopes, each with several Plones.

My thoughts about the alternatives follow and I appreciate any feedback.

Option A seems pretty expensive in terms of ressources but gives a good
isolation betweeen the instances. Under this aspect it is easy to manage.
All updates of the lower parts of the software stack (e.g. Zope) must be
done several times. Seems good for production but a lot of hassle for
development if one tries to evaluate ideas.

Option B is easier when Zope is not installed as root, less plumbing
required on the OS level than in option A, same good isolation between the
instances as in A, same overhead when doing Zope updates.

Option C brings no isolation between the plone instances wrt different
product versions. Seems not advisable to me.

So the conclusion is : Option A for production, Option B for development and
staging.

Thoughts, ideas ?

How do you guys handle this, especially when you try new ideas ?

Thanks for your time

Norbert

RE: Q> How to organize several plones ?

Hi,

We do the same for our partners.

We work with buildouts stored in our svn.
We have on the same machine several zope with several plone.
On each zope, the plone instances use in majority the same products.
We can hide desired products for the plone manager. Zope manager sees all and can install desired product.

We do a new zope instance when products are too different from existing instances.

The production and test environments are exactly the same.

Event: last month day not showed in calendar portlet

Hi all,

I tried to crare an event startin on 31 Aug 2009 and ending on 4
Septenber 2009.

In the portlet calendar the 31 Aug day doesn't report any event, but 1,
2, 3 and 4 September reports correctly the event.

Viewing the event I see:

When Aug 31, 2009 08:00 AM to
                Sep 04, 2009 10:00 PM

It is a calendar portlet bug or I'm doing someting wrong?

I'm using Plone 3.3 RC 4 universal installer.

Thanks

Plone 3 - fckeditor customization

Hi all,

Where can I find documentation on how to customize fckeditor in Plone?

I've found nothing at: http://plone.org/products/fckeditor/documentation
And the documentation at
http://docs.fckeditor.net/FCKeditor_2.x/Developers_Guide says a lot of
things that I cannot understand how to do in Plone.

I'm trying to create custom styles and custom templates for fckeditor.

In plone 3 (really 3.3 rc 4) the "FCK Editor global configuration" seems
to offer to replace the "FCK Editor Styles List" (not completely, I
'cannot get rid of the "Red Title" style) but I cannot find anything
about templates.

Any help will be greately appreciated.

Re: Plone 3 - fckeditor customization

The documentation is sparse.

I opened an issue in their tracker 6 months ago about the "Red Title" issue
(http://trac.ingeniweb.com/ticket/87) and it has yet to be dealt with or
answered.

In the old pre-buildout days, you could customize the various .js and
configuration files by making a copy of them in your "custom" folder. I
don't know that it would work in the new buildout way.

Plone 3.3 rc 4: LDAP authentication docs

Hi all,

is PloneLDAP 1.1 the recommended plugin to use for user management
against an OpenLDAP server?

If yes, where can I find documentation about attribute mapping?

For now I have four problems using an InetOrgPerson as schema for users:

   1. email: if I create the user in Plone it is ok (plone and ldap show
the same string); if I create the user in LDAP the field is empty
      in Plone
   2. Portrait: to which plone field can I map the jpegPhoto ldap field?
   3. last name: in ldap it is "sn" that is not mapped to anything
   4. first name: in ldap it is "givenName" (gn) that is not mapped to
      anything

Have I to install additional products?

Thanks
