Ok, great It's works.

I unterstand him, but functionnal ldap in plone is a must have. it's
major feature to have ldap out of the box. Maybe does necessary to
maintain a plone version ?

Migration

Hi, is it possible to migrate Plone 2.1/Zope 2.7.8 to Plone 2.5/Zope
2.9.6
? ? or it's better to upgrade only Plone to 2.5 ? Any known issues?

thanks

Plone on SSL-only site - best setup method?

Hello!

I'm configuring plone/zope/etc and I am running into a choice that I am
not sure how to make. Let me describe my situation. I have a server
with 4 IPs. I have two different domain names associated with two of
the IPs, for example 192.168.1.1 is testweb.com and 192.168.1.2 is
testweb2.com.

I need Plone to function solely in SSL for each of these hosts. I need
to keep port 80 free for a static web page that I'll be using to
redirect to the SSL plone site. Additionally, I've installed the
default install of plone, which installs a Zeo cluster, which I'd like
to use. Further, due to the fact that this site will have high traffic
requirements, I think that Squid would be smart to implement.

I've considered setting it up the following ways:

Pound -> Squid -> Pound -> ZEO
Apache -> Squid -> Pound -> ZEO

Does this make any sense? I read about but have been unable to find
more detailed reference to the fact that caching can be performed in
zope, meaning I might be able to just use Pound -> ZEO.

Performance is an issue for me as I will have many, many hits on an SSL
site on a server that is performing several other functions as well.
Can anyone recommend suggested method for configuring a ZEO cluster for
the highest performance with SSL? What additional products can I/should
I install to further increase performance?

Thank you (and sorry about the long post)!

Nolan

The README should cover it. It explicitly states which zope versions are
compatible. Ir I recall correctly, plone 2.5 is not compatible with zope
2.7.8, so you'll need to update both.

I think it's in the readme, but it is proably blest to do it in two
distinct stages. First upgrade zope (and possibly a catalog migration),
second upgrade plone.

For best caching (=CacheFu) results, put squid in front of zope. I'm not
sure if you can put pound inbetween, but that's because I don't have
experience with pound yet. But in any case: you'll need squid.

In my experience, it is handiest to put apache somewhere in front of
that (again, not sure of the Pound location). Apache is handy for
juggling the various IPs and domain names.

So: apache+squid+zope is the most well-known combination. Put zope in a
zeo setup to allow more servers to share in the load. Pound sounds like
the thing you'll need somewhere along the way, but I haven't looked at
that myself yet.

Importing old content with or without Webslinger

Does anyone have any experience with getting Webslinger working. We have
had NO success whatsoever here. BeautifulSoup installs no problem, so
does slinger, everything else is fine, but no form appears when you
select the slinger object.

Any info on other products for importing ( and customizing during the
import ) would be welcome.

Thanks.

Pete

Pete,
From plone.org, webslinger appears to be an alpha release that was
posted only a month ago, so a bit bleeding edge maybe?

If you can't get that to work, had you considered this approach :
Enable ftp in zope.conf, then on the same box if its *nix (OS X, Linux
etc) , or from an external *nix box, run a script something like this :

#/bin/sh
ftp myplonesite.net <<!!

mypassword
cd whereyouwanttobe
mput *lotsoffiles.*
bye
!!

(Might also be do-able on a Windows box with cygwin....)

In other words simulate a bulk ftp upload.

Above script may need some tweaking to get to work . I've definitely
made things like that work in the past, not specifically with plone but
with other ftp servers.

Cheers
Nick

Hello,
Plone 2.5.1 depends on python-imaging (PIL) module).
.. Plone 2.5.2 would depend on python-celementree too.
