Plan for Marketing Tune-Up this Coming Friday May 15th

Hi All:

This coming Friday, May 15th, we will be working on two things:

1) Gathering information about events Plone should be represented at
so that we have a plan in place, budget set aside for target events,
and can help support Plonistas going to those events.

The preliminary event list we have is at:
http://etherpad.com/eMhbqewyQw

It is broken down by region. EUROPEANS: please add on to your list!

GOAL FOR MAY 15TH PLONE TUNE-UP:
For each event, gather:
  - name, location, dates
  - url
  - target audience
  - expected number of exhibitors and their names
  - expected number of attendees
  - admission ticket price
  - information on booth rental cost and other associated expenses for
exhibitors
  - names of Plonistas planning on attending the event
  - reason why Plone should be represented

Again, the list is at:
http://etherpad.com/eMhbqewyQw

2) Review the latest update of the Plone logo usage guidelines (to be

Plone logo on new Plone.org pages?!

Hi folks,

can someone tell me why there is no (plone) logo on the header of the
new Plone.org pages? Is there a reason for this?
It's my main concern right now about new plone.org "usability" and
"branding".

thanks,
Francesco.

Want to improve Plone marketing?

Dear Plone enthusiasts,

The newly reformed Plone Marketing committee is seeking highly
motivated members of the community who want to serve on the committee.
If you are interested, please contact me with
a brief summary of why you would like to serve on the committee and
your ideas for improving the marketing and promotion of Plone.

In an effort to build some momentum around Plone marketing efforts,
the Plone foundation board has reinstated the Plone marketing
committee. I will be chairing the committee and Jon Stahl and Geir
Bœkholt will also be serving as members.

The first task of the newly formed committee is to prepare a roadmap
of marketing efforts to tackle in 2008, to be discussed and refined at
the upcoming Plone Strategic Planning Summit starting on friday at the
Googleplex. [1]

Also, while we're on the subject of marketing, please send your
marketing materials to marketing@... They will be used to
conduct a brand audit at the upcoming summit and eventually produce a
package of reusable marketing materials about Plone. [2]

There is also a marketing committee area on plone.org [3] with
information on mailing lists and a wiki on openplans.org [4] which we
can use for organizing these marketing efforts.

Looking forward to your responses and ideas for marketing Plone in 2008!

thanks,

[Community-marketing] consolidation of Plone marketing lists

In an effort to reduce confusion about the various Plone marketing
lists, we are consolidating them to just two:

marketing-committee@... - the official list for the
marketing committee of the Plone foundation. Only members of the
marketing committee should subscribe.

evangelism@... - the general list for all issues related
to marketing, promotion and evangelism of Plone. Anyone is welcome to
join this list.

These two lists will be terminated on February 29, 2008:
foundation-marketing@...
community-marketing@...

If you are on these lists, and would like to continue to participate
in the Plone marketing efforts, please subscribe (if you haven't
already) to the evangelism@... list. This is where all
discussion about Plone marketing will take place from now on.

Please note that we will not be automatically moving your email
address over to the evangelism list, so if you want to stay
up-to-date, you will have to take this action.

thanks,
Nate

[Community-marketing] great outreach opportunity: toronto - october 25-26

If you're in or near Toronto, http://fsoss.senecac.on.ca/2007 looks like a great chance to represent the Plone Community alongside heavy hitters from Mozilla, Apache and more!

Welcome to Seneca's 6th Annual

Free Software and Open Source Symposium

October 25-26th, 2007 - 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Seneca <at> York Campus, Toronto

The Symposium is a two-day event aimed at bringing together educators, developers and other interested parties to discuss common free software and open source issues, learn new technologies and to promote the use of free and open source software. At Seneca College, we think free and open source software are real alternatives.

I'm not sure if Plone will be represented in the competition at AIIM:

if not, might be worth looking into. It's on April 17th in Boston.

[Community-marketing] Please help me

DEAR BELOVED,

I am MISS BINTA BAHIE and am 24 years of age. I happen to be the only surviving daughter/child of LATE MR.
PATRICK BAHIE.

I have decided to contact you over a desperate and pitiable situation in which I find myself after loosing my
parents and siblings to the civil crises in my country. I am left alone in the world.

I must inform you that most of my family’s assets and funds were either looted or vandalized by my father’s
business partners and government’s authorities.

At the moment, I need your cordial assistance in receiving a fund worth of US$18M. This fund was deposited by
my late father as family belongings with a private security firm.

I would need your assistance in receiving and investing this funds as well as helping me in obtaining
traveling documents to your country or any other western country to enable me finish my education.

I am ready to provide you with all the relevant information related to this deposit including all documents.

Again, my whole life will be a mess if nothing is done urgently to receive these funds as my entire livelihood
now lies on these funds. Please in any way you can be of help to me do as you will not only help me as a person
rather you will be helping humanity in general.

Furthermore, I will be looking forward to your quick response to this effect as I will welcome your
suggestions on way forward including your conditions of assistance.

More so, I have decided to compensate your much needed assistance with 20% of the total sum while any
expenses you will incur in the course of the transaction will be refunded as soon as the business is done.

Be informed that, I am doing things on my own for now and I do not see any form of risk in the transaction as long
as we will continue this transaction between us at least until I travel out from these wicked people.

I will wait for to hear from you as soon as possible.

Regards,

Binta Bahie

[Community-marketing] RE: [ZPUGDC] Fwd: [cmpros] Boston Members - Report on plone user group and call for interest in Boston CM/ECM meetup

I would agree - we lately reached out to the Laszlo community by
co-sponsoring a Sprint and it generated some interest from Laszlo folks to
learn about Plone. But more needs to occur, as it was still a Plone-centric
Sprint (although we actually got into a considerable amount of Laszlo
coding).

and call for interest in Boston CM/ECM meetup

I thought other Plone user groups might be interested in this recent
development happening in Boston... (see Russ' email below to the CM Pros
mailing list)

I think the Plone community could in general be better about reaching out to
other user groups and inviting them to come and learn about Plone.

Russ suggested inviting the MySQL user group to a Plone meeting and make the
topic, "How to use get Plone to talk to MySQL". We had a guy from the Ruby
user group show up last night, and there are often folks from the Python
user group who come to learn about Plone.

Thoughts, other ideas? We can continue this discussion at the Plone
Conference - i think there is even a BoF about Plone user groups.

This Month's Boston Plone User Group hosted at the Christian Science Monitor
was very interesting. We don't use plone but it is great to a be a part a
group of such talented individuals (Several members of CMPros) engaged in
web content managment and open source.

To night we looked at a number of new functionalities Developed by Nate Aune
and he collegues for managing multi media within the plone system.

We also looked at plone functionality called smart folders. Smart folders
are an awesome capability of plone which allows dynamic / adaptive
organizations to be genereated on the fly. Seth Gottlieb (
http://contenthere.blogspot.com/ <http://contenthere.blogspot.com/> ) posted
a blog on an article "There is no Folder" by Jonah Bossewitch
http://contenthere.blogspot.com/2006/05/there-is-no-folder.html
<http://contenthere.blogspot.com/2006/05/there-is-no-folder.html> . Which
highlights the power in this kind of functionality. If you haven't had a
chance to check it out, do so its good stuff.

One of the things we were discussing after the meeting was the thought of
finding individuals in the Boston area to participate in a Content
Management User Group. My organization (The CS Monitor) uses alfresco, the
great gang we hosted tonight uses Plone, Seth does it all :) Although we
are all using different products we have many of the same issues. I'd be
interested to know who in the boston area would be interested in forming a
general CM/ECM user group. Since many of us meet for other usergroups it
may not make sense to meet each month, maybe ee could meet maybe once a
quarter.

If you are in boston, or close to boston, and are interested send me an
email. I think I can find some wiki space to coordinate something if there
is interest.
