PloneTranslation and Plone 3.1

Hi all,

the next major Plone release labeled version 3.1
(http://plone.org/products/plone/releases/3.1) is appearing on the horizon.

On the translations side we have made one major change. We have droped
the support for Plone 2.5 from the same translation files as those being
used for Plone 3.

This means the PloneTranslations SVN trunk is now only targeted at Plone
3.0.x and Plone 3.1.x releases.

As it is rather unlikely that there is going to be another Plone 2.5
release we found this to be acceptable at this point in time. If you
still want to update the translations for Plone 2.5, you will need to
commit your changes to the 2.5 branch
(https://svn.plone.org/svn/collective/PloneTranslations/branches/2.5) as
well as to trunk or sent them to me, so I can check them in for you.

As a result of the dropped support for Plone 2.5 we were able to remove
205 messages from the translation files. This brings the total number of
messages down to 2070 and avoids unneeded effort for new translators
only interested in Plone 3.x support.

If you have any questions or comments, you are most welcome :)

Hanno

P.S. For those of you interested in statistics, this is the current
percentage of translated messages for all of our languages.

Translation push for Plone 3.1/3.2

The underlying reason for stripping the 2.5 strings was because I asked
Hanno if we could get rid of them to make it easier to involve new
translators.

I really want to have a translation push for the 3.1 and 3.2 releases. Our
goal is to have the 40 most common languages as complete as possible,
which will cover over 99% of the current online internet population.

Based on Hanno's numbers, here are the 40 language grouped by priority —
based on their online populations, not specific who's actually using Plone
— with their current completion percentages and language codes indicated:

Priority 1:

   0% - English (en-gb),
  99% - French (fr),
  99% - Italian (it),
  99% - German (de),
  99% - Spanish (es),
  99% - Dutch (nl),
  79% - Simplified Chinese (zh-cn),
  89% - Traditional Chinese (zh-tw),
  99% - Japanese (ja),
  23% - Korean (ko),
  99% - Brazilian Portuguese (pt-br),
  55% - Russian (ru),
  97% - Polish (pl),
  99% - Turkish (tr),
   0% - Thai (th),
  23% - Arabic, RTL (ar)

translation push

Regarding the removal of 2.5 msgids: I've already done some work
outside trunk using both 2.5 and 3 strings for greek. is there an
easy way to strip from those files everything non-3?

Although neither in Priority 1 group, nor Priority 2, Basque (eu)
translation is complete both in 2.5 branch and trunk.

Best,

it's all greek to you

It does not seem I can commit to the svn, so here are the translations
I've completed... There has been a lot of work on plone-el.po but it
is such a massive beast that it's going to take a while to complete.

Perhaps someone can then have a look at the i18n-bugs in the tracker.
There are some templates which are not correctly i18nfied.

We should probably rename it from "Priority" to "Coverage level" or
something, since it doesn't really indicate importance, more coverage.

Thanks!

Just commit the current combined 2.5/3 file, and we (well, Hanno O:) will
make it happen for you. :)

I have checked in your files to SVN.

Your plone.org user ggozad has the right permissions to check in to SVN.

Did you do (notice the https):

"svn co https://svn.plone.org/svn/collective/PloneTranslations/trunk
PloneTranslations"

and then try to check in your changes?

Thanks,
Hanno
