Basic questions re: LinguaPlone

Hello,

I've been reading the LP documentation, but I have some really newbie
questions about it that I'm not quite getting an answer to.

When you install LP, are all languages magically available to your site, or
do you have to specifically say "I want to turn on French, Spanish and
Swahili?"

Does it differentiate between Spanish from Spain vs Spanish from Mexico vs
Spanish from Guatemala? If not, can I override the base Spanish stuff to be
regionally correct?

Does it magically translate my content? I assume no, since there is a
mysterious i18ndude app out there. Speaking of which, I can't figure out how
to install it. I have not found any directions on how to install yet... I'm
on Mac OSX and a bit new to python and don't how to use eggs.

Many thanks!

Re: Basic questions re: LinguaPlone

By the way, I do see this in the documentation, but I don't understand what
this means. Also, what is the Cheese Shop?

You can simply install it via "easy_install i18ndude".

Some small refinements to setup.py. i18ndude is now registered in the
Cheese Shop and you can get the current development version just by
      typing 'easy_install i18ndude' :)

Thanks,

in your plone contol panel there should be a language configuration
settings where you can decide which languages are supported in your site.

There is a setting to whether these should be honored. I don't quite
know the effect it has for language negotiation, though.

LP doesnt translate content. Neither does i18ndude. i18ndude helps you
find untranslated strings in your templates ( say if you are building a
product) to make for easier translation of user-interfaces.

Re: Translation of static content

Hi,

it is imperative for me that my original question is being addressed.
I've sighted much other material including D.Convents suggested ones but
found no useful material. Please answer my original question if possible...

Origninal question:

if ve static portlets created due to plone.org howto. now i ve to add
2nd language translation. however portlet logic does not include that.
So, some conditions have to be added. For example for the 2nd language:
<div tal:condition="python:request.other.get ('LANGUAGE', 'de') == 'de'">

BUT:
how do i access the (for example german) title and body in that specific
language of an object?

i assume i ve to add something to this line:
<span tal:content="here/title_or_id">Title</span>

but i dont know where TALES expressions are documented nor which
commands to add after the "here/" expression. Any help would be greatly appreciated???

thanks,
lr

Trouble with switching languages

Hey,

I installed Plone 2.5.2 and create new Plone site. Install PloneLanguageTool and choose couple of languges for my site.
I see flags on the Welcome page, however when I click on the flags the language of the interface remains the same - English.
I guessed all translated labels in interface must change when I clicked on the flags.
Have I missed something or doing wrong?

Error when trying to translate

Hi there,
I'm getting the following error message when I'm trying to translate my
types:

Traceback (innermost last):

AttributeError: translation_mutator

I checked with a folderish type that is closely related to ATFolder
(just two additional boolean fields). Apparently the error is related to
using the index attribute on the boolean fields and then making those
fields languageIndependent (see code below). I have this error on
another type which does not have any indexes in it, but I thought I'd go
one by one... does anybody know how I can solve the issue? Do I have to
create a mutator (whatever that is)?

Translating files

Hi,

I have a bunch of Word files; files which lose their formatting if I
post them as plain text. I was thinking about uploading them as files
and "translating" them with linguaplone, but somehow the files are
language agnostic; the only thing I can translate is the description.
Is there a way to post different files for each language?

A.

By default, Files are treated as being language-independent. If you want
language-dependent files, you have to change the schema definition or
create your own type that does this.
