It happens only on section edit. Editing the whole page won't create section links
and that worked fine so far.

Yes, no problem with that.

The page existed before. I never recognised this behaviour when I created a new page.
But that might be the case because new pages usually have only a few lines and are
shorter than a screen page.

I see. Still I'd like to know if this is a bug we can (or maybe have
already) fixed. Could you install a second test wiki on the same
server maybe?

http://www.dokuwiki.org/config:maxseclevel should help you to disable
section editing.

Is there a way to set a page name other than the first heading?

I'd like to be able to give DokuWiki pages 'nice' names which aren't
the first heading on the page.

For example I have a page whose name (i.e. the filename before the
.txt) is whatsort and whose first heading is "What sort of boat to
buy". Neither 'whatsort' nor 'What sort of boat to buy' really looks
good in the sidebar index, I'd prefer to have 'What sort' or something
like that.

So is there a plugin that can do this, or a way of creating a hidden
first heading that will set the links etc. but won't actually show
when displaying the page?

No.

Why don't you give that page a sensible name? Why not just "boats"? Or
"boats2buy"? If that thing would be a Word document you wouldn't call
it "whatsort.doc", wouldn't you?

No, but since DokuWiki makes everything lower case *and* removes
accents etc. the page names really can't look nice. If I name the
page 'What sort' then DokuWiki will change it to what_sort which isn't
nearly so pretty.

I can't just call it 'boats' because 90% of the pages would be called
'boats', it's a Wiki about buying a boat! :-)

I have found the solution though, it's very simple, the meta plugin
allows me to do *exactly* what I want. With the meta plugin installed
I just put:-

    ~~meta:title=What sort~~

on the page and it's done.

Is an Action plugin convenient for my goal?

Hi,

First I want to thanks again the dokuwiki team, and the mailing list. I use Dokuwiki to manage a french tutorials library, here: http://ressources.mediabox.fr/tutoriaux
For instance, I made a custom version of the data plugin. It is used to provide customs summaries for namespaces, with the ability for a page to appear in others summaries than his own namespace summary (sorry for my english, I do my best ;) ). You can see it in action for example here: http://ressources.mediabox.fr/tutoriaux/flashplatform/affichage/animation

I would like to share my custom data plugin, but for now is too much specific , and I haven't got enough time to make it more general. Someday, I hope...

[End of my little presentation]

So, I'm looking for advices to improve my system.

My goal is:
I would like to create a new button for tutorial authors.
When an author achieve a tutorial, he can press this button. This button will appear to the left of the 'Edit this page" button, during the $ACT="show" mode.
When an author press this button, an html form appear. Now the author write a little text in a textarea, to introduce his tutorial. Pressing the submit button of this form, the textarea content had to be parse against the dokuwiki syntax, an the generated html is added at the top of a xml file. Something like a custom rss feed, that I will use to announce the newest tutorials in an other part of the site, not in the dokuwiki part. I don't want to do that with the built-in rss feeds because I want the authors to be able to choose when their tutorials will be announced, and to write a special text for, something perhaps more friendly than the tutorial introduction text itself. In addition, the textarea content will be used to automatically create a new topic in the forum section of the site (an IP.Board forum).

I read the action plugin documentation, but I'm not sure. Can I solved my problem with an action plugin? Do I need to create a new dokuwiki Action mode? Is it possible to do it without touching the php core?

Thank you very much for any help (and again, I apologize for my english)

Olivier.

The new comparison function is quite complex. Please have a look at it

    new fnencode option FS#1649

This patch adds an option to choose how filenames are encoded
when saved to the file system. You can choose between urlencoding
(url), the new SafeFn method (safe) and storing real UTF-8 (utf-8).

http://github.com/splitbrain/dokuwiki/commit/70e083cec45ef4a738ae0b3f20af8e4f288a7dfa
Author: Christopher Smith <chris[at]jalakai.co.uk>
Date: Sun Apr 4 20:24:01 2010 +0200

    class for safely encoding filenames

This class tries to satisfy the following requirements:

      * all ASCII alphanumeric chars in the input should stay the same
ASCII alphanumeric chars in the output
      * the resulting string should be as short as possible
      * the operation needs to be reversable without any data loss
      * the resulting ASCII string should be case insensitive
      * there should be no restriction on the input length
      * the whole UTF-8 range should be allowed

using it creates a way to store UTF-8 in filenames even if the
underlying filesystem does not support UTF-8. It is also pretty
robust when files are moved between various filesystems and it
creates shorter filenames than the currently used urlencoding.
