Dokuwiki in IE8

[21:23]	<Nashoba>	Have you tried IE 8?
[21:24]	<wes>	No.
[21:25]	<Nashoba>	Just got it today, it does some strange stuff in the wiki.
[21:26]	<wes>	????
[21:27]	<Nashoba>	I'm editing an Aeon page.
[21:28]	<Nashoba>	While I'm typing the screen keeps refreshing for
every character I type.
[21:30]	<wes>	What the heck.
[21:31]	<Nashoba>	Its an IE thing I'm sure.
[21:32]	<Nashoba>	Definitely IE. If I don't preview the page, I can
type and it behaves, but after previewing it goes annoying.

Can anyone else replicate this problem?

I just tried it with 2 DokuWiki sites and even editing works flawlessly.
Are you using any other software (Add-Ons etc.) that might cause your
Problems?

I think what you're referring to is the bug reported to dokuwiki on
April 8th, 2009 at http://bugs.splitbrain.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=1667

The patch has been included in the latest darc.

If you don't want to download the darc, then use the temporary
solution found at http://acidmartin.wordpress.com/2009/03/21/using-the-ie8-x-ua-compatibility-meta-tag/

good luck.

Strange how out of four people only one came up with a link that is the
very first DokuWiki search result: http://search.dokuwiki.org/?q=ie8
Even the normal Google search results in very useful first three links:
http://www.google.com/search?q=dokuwiki+ie8

Wes has even been contributing to the mailinglist thread that is
Google's first result and which points to the bug report as well ...

Sorry, I don't want to reprimand anyone, I'm just trying to help you to
help yourself better.

Hi Anika,

Not meant to reprimand either, what you think it's easy/obvious might not be the same for others

1st, if you type "internet explorer 8" in http://search.dokuwiki.org, it won't give you give you the desire result.
2nd, not everyone uses google, eg there are people still using live search from microsoft, so searching "dokuwiki ie8" won't give you the desire result as well.

Regards

James

Re: Dokuwiki in IE8

Hi again Anika,

seriously, I do not mean to create any arguments or what so ever, there is never a good question or bad question, what you just said before makes people look stupid, and that's discouraging people to ask questions, yes, even "dumb" questions, it makes people nervous about asking questions "is this question too stupid to ask?"

Not all people are good researchers like you, and not everyone has a lot of time to do research, so why not let those people ask the questions they want answered, if you think they are dumb questions, maybe just ignore them?

I agree that mailing list is very busy, but if an stupid question gets answered, might saves someone a lot of time.

just my 2cents.

Regards

James

I'm sorry, but if someone doesn't have the time to help themselves,
then they can't expect anyone else to help them. This isn't paid
support. Its an open source project where people give freely of their
spare time. That is a precious resource, don't waste it. Remember,
that includes "asking" people to read messages.

The forum is a less rigorous, choose to read and perhaps friendlier
place.
