.htpasswd

hi all,

i'd like to use .htaccess to password protect a dokuwiki with
.htpasswd.

i've added the necessary .htaccess lines:

--
AuthName "Restricted Area"
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /usr/home/location_of_dokuwiki_password/.htpasswd
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
require valid-user
--

to the top of the default .htaccess (in the root of the
dokuwiki installation), which only contained these active
lines:

--
<Files ~ "^[\._]ht">
    Order allow,deny
    Deny from all
    Satisfy All
</Files>
--

is there anything i need to be concerned about wrt dokuwiki
functioning properly now that i've manually edited it's root
.htaccess file?

Moving a dokuwiki website on another server

Hi all,

I should move the whole pages of an existing dokuwiki website into a new server. I'm not sure, but I think I should proceed in the following way:

1) install (and configure) a fresh dokuwiki website in the new server
2) overwrite the folder /data of the NEW server with the same folder of the OLD website

Is it the correct procedure? What about users accounts, I can migrate them also?

Thanks in advance for any help ;)

Marco

Hi Marco,

pls have a look at the official Wiki:

I think you will find everything you need.

yikes - tatewake.com offline!

Hey folks,

Looks like http://tatewake.com is offline - perhaps the owner of the
site and author of the fabulous monobook for dokuwiki template is not
aware of it.

Cheers,

Tobias

Re: yikes - tatewake.com offline!

That is correct, I'm not aware of it!

It looks like all of my sites are off-line currently...

This probably has something to do with my hosting company moving me to
a different server; I'll contact them and see what's up.

Don't fret though, I have backups of everything if I have to restore
it for some reason.

Why don't you just tar the whole dokuwiki directory on th old server
and untar it on the new one? There is no magic involved.

They are stored in the conf directory (if you use the plain backend)
just move them with the rest.

Search engine plugin

Hello. Is there a plugin or some other method to have Dokuwiki search linked .doc, and .pdf files?

I use Dokuwiki for documentation at the Satellite Earth Station I work at and we have tons of documentation in MS Word files and PDF.  I’m thinking a way to do it is to have a cron job run at a designated time, scan the files linked to in the wiki, and build some sort of index the search function can access.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Re: yikes - tatewake.com offline!

Hiyas,

Just as a final follow up, everything is back up; as I suspected there
was just some complications during the server move that weren't
initially caught. Everything should be fine now though.
