[Sigia-l] Google Search Appliance

We are considering various search engines to run on in our Internet and
Intranet Architecture. I'd like to hear some comments, pros and cons, about
the Google Search Appliance. I will compile and set out to all that are
interested.

[Sigia-l] IxDG Dinner at IA Summit on Sun 3/6 - Montreal, Canada

If you are attending the IA Summit or just living in or near Montreal,
Canada and are interested in meeting others who do and are involved in
IxD, we have built an amazing dinner event for the evening of March
6th.
(People will be responsible for the costs of their own meals and drinks.)

Conference attendees should meet in the lobby of the Fairmont Queen E
at 6:45p. We'll be going to the restaurant from there.

It is important that people RSVP to me, dave (at) ixdg (dot) org as we
will be updating a reservation for our selected restaurant. Here is
the information:

Café Cherrier, at 3635 Rue St. Denis,
phone number 514-843-4308

As of now there are 32 people coming to this exciting evening for
people interested in IxD.

We will be closing our RSVP period by EOD Friday to give the
restaurant a final reservation count.

People who would like to eat dinner elsewhere, and then join us for
some social time afterwards, we will be at the bar from 9:30 or so,
onward.

I want to thank in particular Hans Samuelson and Rebecca Downey for
putting in some amazing legwork to help organize this event.

[Sigia-l] Vivio

Hi,

Has anybody used Vivio - the software used for e-learning? Can you share
your experiences / opinions?

I am planning to conduct a detailed human factors evaluation of Vivio. Your
inputs would be very helpful to identify specific areas to focus on during
initial tests.

thanks,
yogesh

[Sigia-l] The FLIPP method

David Cox came across the work I did for Edward Tufte and contacted me to
let me know about a visual method he developed while at Proctor & Gamble
which is now freely available to all as a public service:
http://www.flipp-explainers.org I took a look and found it to be very
interesting (refreshingly simple), and applicable to the field of IA and
wanted to share it with this list (with his permission.) I'd be curious to
hear any feedback as to whether or not anyone finds this relevant to their
work.

Here is an excerpt from his message:

>You will appreciate more than most readers the property of the method
>in which patterns of connection form a framework of user logic where
>the framework has as its parts no symbols, words, icons, or
>formula-forms. This makes the rules for reading the framework so
>obvious that different languages can be substituted in the unchanged
>framework. This is important because we found that a filled framework
>can replace about 90% of the pages in a regular text set of
>instructions and be far clearer as well.
>
>This is demonstrated at http://www.flipp-explainers.org Neither P&G nor
>I have a financial interest in the method. My interest is simply in
>publicizing the method. I believe it will be important in complex
>fields like health care;  social security;  homeland defense;
>business; education; government; science; IT; and AI.

I could not access the site at present.

One option (though not as current) is
