Our campaigners log into the site staging site and then when they look at a page that they have edit permissions for an edit this page link is shown. You can see how this looks at http://www.ngogeeks.com/node/view/296. They can then click on the "edit article" link and a form opens showing the article and various properties associated with it such as thumbnail, we want all are articles to include at least one thumbnail. They can then chose a Primary topic and a Subtopic select a Contact and add other information for the article.
