How to Launch Bluefish

In searching for a PHP IDE for the Mac, it looks like Bluefish will meet my needs.

I installed Bluefish using "fink install bluefish".  This also installed XDarwin in the process.  When I type "bluefish -v", I get back the version number, so I know I have access to the executable, but when I run bluefish with other options (or none at all), it appears to hang as soon as I press Enter, without any windows appearing or messages written to the xterm.

I am new to Mac OSX and this is the first time I've used an X-server on a Mac, so it is entirely likely that I am doing something incorrectly.  Therefore, I am seeking verification that I am going about launching Bluefish the proper way.  If I am launching it correctly, then I am seeking help as how to determine what the problem is that causes it hangs immediately after launch... I have to Ctrl-C to abort it...

How long did you wait before canceling it?

That's also surprising that it installs XDarwin. Could you tell me
your Mac OS X system version and the fink version you installed?

Also which version of bluefish are you using?

Maybe you did not set your environment correctly. See the fink web
site to know how to do this.

Then as it appears that the problem is more a problem of fink
installation than a problem of bluefish installation, it may be
better to ask on the fink users mailing list.

Cheers,
Michèle

Maybe 20 minutes.

OS X 10.4.7   Fink 0.24.17  Is there a better X-server than XDarwin?

1.0.4

OK.  I never used fink before discovering bluefish, either.  As I said, I am a new Mac user after using PCs for 20+ years.  So I never heard of fink, XDarwin, or bluefish before yesterday.  I'll see what the fink web site might have to offer..

Oh, yes, too long.

If you want to have the best version of bluefish, it will be better
to use the unstable tree which has version 1.0.5.

For this you need to install the latest Fink version, install also
Apple X11, which comes with your DVD or CD Mac OS X system
installation and XCode available from Apple Developer Connection.

But if you want to stick with the 1.0.4 version of bluefish, Apple's
X11 is better than XDarwin.
Again see the news on the fink web site, which explains in great
detail your options.

That's not a problem, we are all new a day or another day one.

Collapsing Tree

07082006 1643 GMT-6

Im fairly new to Bluefish and I really like it. One thing I would love
to see is collapsing trees. When you are trying to find a missing
bracket or something, its great to collapse entire sections of code.

That is currently in the development. I am running bluefish from
compiled cvs and I think it has what you are talking about. A little +
or - sign by the first <div> and it opens and collapses by clicking on
that sign. Yes, it is very nice.

You might want to try compiling a development snapshot:

Rewritten build files 2: Next attempt - users and developers should test it

Hello all,

Several issues and problems have been found in the rewritten build files
attempt I posted some time ago. These issues have been fixed and I would
like to ask for a second test run.

_Developers_ (those who will work with the CVS-copy) can download the
tarballs from:

http://debian.wgdd.de/temp/bluefish-unstable-cvs.tar.bz2
http://debian.wgdd.de/temp/bluefish-unstable-cvs.tar.gz

and should run:

./autogen.sh && ./configure && fakeroot (g)make distcheck

if you need to customize, where a program or directory can be found, or
if you want to use a special version of any necessary program, you can
use, e.g.

ACLOCAL="~/.local/bin/aclocal-1.7" AUTOMAKE="automake-1.7"
GETTEXT_LOCATION="/foo/bar/gettext/mypo" ./autogen.sh

(you can customize: ACLOCAL, AUTOCONF, AUTOHEADER, AUTOMAKE,
INTLTOOLIZE, LIBTOOLIZE, AUTOMAKE_PATH, GETTEXT_LOCATION)

_Users_ (those, who will download the ready-to-use tarballs from our
server and compile bluefish from source) can download the tarballs from:

http://debian.wgdd.de/temp/bluefish-unstable-1.1.tar.bz2
http://debian.wgdd.de/temp/bluefish-unstable-1.1.tar.gz

and should run:

./configure && fakeroot (g)make distcheck

Please send me all problems/issues you find. I'm especially interested
in users feedback.

PS: The tarballs are adjusted to compile our latest CVS. So you can also
compile and install it on your system, if you want.

Thanks and regards,
Daniel

Idea's for a new image dialog

Hi All,

I'm going to CC this to the user list too.

It has been on the list of TODO's for a while, so I think it is time to
redo the image dialogs. I'm looking for ideas.

Most of the options in the current dialog are depreciated in favor of
CSS now. I think we can move them to a depreciated options tab.

We definitely want an image preview. But I think we should scale it
down. Right now inserting large images can be annoying. Height, width
and alternate text should be displayed.

I was thinking some style options like class and id. Others?

What about options for inline style i.e. <img style="some style" />
Useful yes/no? Or is this most likely to be pretty much done from a
style sheet?

A depreciated options tab with.. ideas?

I was thinking about adding an image preview to the file chooser dialog
when you select the image location. But I was thinking since the dialog
already has an image preview just adding a file chooser widget to the
dialog itself. This would allow faster selection/changing of the image
and eliminate the extra dialog.

This is just a quick list of things. Looking for other ideas. Most of
this is probably applicable to the current insert thumbnail dialog too.
Thanks.

Regards,
	Jim H
