SourceForge Downloads

Hi,
perhaps the good place for snippets repository :

"SourceForge.net introduced a new service in April. Until now, if you wanted
to distribute your software on SourceForge's global network, you needed to
set up a complete project...
Now you can develop your software
anywhere you like, but just distribute it via SourceForge"

Re: SourceForge Downloads

Hi,

Bluefish already has its own project in SourceForge.net.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bluefish/files/
It is the best place for users to find some snippets if project admin allows
their authors to upload them.

You mean some different case in your mind, Clansco?

New Windows Installer for test

First off I've changed the plugin used to download files to Inetc in
hopes to try and resolve the Proxy issues some users have experienced
with the NSISdl plugin. I'd appreciate it if anyone who has had proxy
related problems with the Bluefish installer in the past could give it
a try and report back on whether it fixes your problems.

Overall this is also quite a different installer under the hood than
was used in the previous 2.0.0 release. We now have support for both
privileged and unprivileged installs. If you install it from an
Administrator account Bluefish is installed system wide and available
to all users. Likewise if you try to install Bluefish as a limited
User it will be installed to the Programs directory beneath your home
directory and associate filetypes on a user level instead of system
wide. With these two new separated privilege level installs we also
still support upgrading the old 2.0.0-1 and earlier installs which are
mixed privilege, a complete uninstall and reinstall are necessary to
clean that up. Failing to download GTK+ or a dictionary no longer
cancels the install process.

With all the changes I think a wider range of testing is in order than
what I can do myself. :) Any feedback or bugs are welcome!

I installed without internet connection. It installs correctly now, and
gives an error that GTK cannot be downloaded.

A suggestion: if GTK cannot be downloaded, can we give the URL of the
proper download location, the user can download it manually when there is
an internet connection?

I wanted to include the url in the message but I didn't see a way for
NSIS to insert a urls in a MessageBox. Putting it in as plain text
would be less than useful for most users i'd think wouldn't it?

if it can be copied & pasted that would be better than nothing...

I'll see what I can work out for that.

In the mean time here's a new build you might like. I know you've
been asking for a way to use the installer without internet access for
awhile so here's option one.

http://www.muleslow.net/files/bluefish/binaries/win32/nightlies/Bluefish-2.0.1-svn-r5910-tagalong-setup-20100506.exe
http://www.muleslow.net/files/bluefish/binaries/win32/nightlies/Bluefish-2.0.1-svn-r5910-tagalong-setup-20100506.exe.md5

I call it TagAlong mode since the extra files need to tag along. You
can download the Gtk+ installer and dictionaries and place them in the
same directory as the installer, though I'll likely change that to a
subdirectory called redist or some such. Anyways, before attempting
to download the file from the net it will first check if a local copy
exists, if it finds one it will check the md5 of the file against a
store value, if it matches it will install the local copy or if the
checksum fails it will revert to download mode.

For example the following files would allow you to install the default
English language install with spellcheck and GTK+ with no internet
connection.
bluefish/
bluefish/Bluefish-2.0.1-svn-r5910-tagalong-setup-20100506.exe
bluefish/gtk-runtime-2.14.7-rev-a.exe
bluefish/aspell6-en-6.0-0.tbz2

GTK+ Path Removal in Windows

Looking for comments about removing the GTK+ from the PATH on Windows
when Bluefish is uninstalled. Currently it's the one thing I don't
try to restore on an uninstall besides completely uninstalling GTK+.
Here's a couple of my thoughts on the issue.

Reasons it should be removed:
It (likely) wasn't there before Bluefish was installed
GTK+ 2.14.7a installer won't remove it if uninstalled

Reasons not to remove it:
Other applications installed post Bluefish may depend on it now

my vote: not remove it.

+1 for not to remove it.
To remove it or not is the matter which should be handled by GTK+
itself, isn't it?
I have at least 2 more applications those depend on GTK+, Dia and GIMP.
