Re: [V4L] AVerMedia AVerTV Stereo: bad reception

Bad video. The sound seems just fine, although there is one channel with
no sound at all, and I'm not certain that stereo is really working.

Finetuning, gee, what a novel idea! (duh! :-) Yes, I can get quite good
reception by finetuning every channel to between -3 and -9, except for one
channel that needs +25. I don't know if this is related, but the channels
are all one off what I expect, e.g., channel 5 (which needs the +25) comes
in as 6, channel 8 comes in as 9, etc.

Is there a way to save finetuning settings? After I finetune a channel
PgUp and PgDn reset my position in the channel list, which is rather
inconvenient.

I'll remove it and examine it closely, and get back to you. What exactly
should I be looking for?

[V4L] Best high frame rate cameras / cards?

I've been trying to figure out which camera + card combination will let
me get the highest refresh rate. Something above a regular firewire DV
cam on a Mac would be ideal.

I see, for example, that the Bt8x8 cards are popular, but what actual
products being sold are based on these cards? I can't seem to find any.

Thanks all,

DT

BT848 is a chip, not a card. Products don't say "based on Bt848" on the
outside, but many, many are.
If you download the bttv source code, or look at the source in a modern
kernel like 2.4.18, then you'll see
bttv-cards.c which has a whole list of cards based on those chips.
Another option is to go to a store and look
at a card you like. Get the sales person to show you the card (ie. take
it out of the box.)
It will likely have a chip that says "Conexant Fusion BT878A" on it,
which is a modern variant of Bt8x8's.

P.S. I have an ATI TV Wonder. It has an 878A. It doesn't work yet
(locks the machine up solid on modprobe.)

[V4L] xine - aaxine

Hello list ,

Yesterday I installed the latest version of Xine.
Looking at the webpage I saw something like an ascii ouput. ( example was the dolby logo )

According the webpage this "module" was called 'aaxine' and came along with the latest version.
I correctly installed Xine ( from source code , both lib and gui )

But I'm not able to locate aaxine. How do I run this module ? Did I forgot something ? ...
I was able to use "man aaxine" , but I didn't found an executable ( find / -name aaxine )

Could somebody help me , give pointers , ...

Thx a lot

Re: [V4L] PixelView PlayTV Pro Rec.9D with Noisy Audio

Oh, User error:

Your tuner FI1216 is for PAL-BG!

In UK (your mail indicates you live there) you have PAL-I.
As you don't have a sound decoder (like MSP or TDA) onboard,
your sound comes from the tuner.

Sound frequencies BG->I differ by 0.5MHz, so you can get either
bright picture or clear sound.

Re-check your fact about 2MHz detuning for sound, if you
find this is exactly 0.5MHz the problem is resolved.

Solution:
Get a second card of this kind :-)

Re: [V4L] AVerMedia AVerTV Stereo: bad reception

Which "Frequency table" are you using in xawtv ?

The difference between "us-cable" and "us-cable-hrc"
would explain deviations of 0.75 MHz

Re: Re: [V4L] PixelView PlayTV Pro Rec.9D with Noisy Audio

Hi Gunther,

You were right that the tuner is for PAL-BG and not suitable for UK.
However, I can only get a clear sound without picture with 2MHz offset.

Is it possible to adjust the sound offset by fiddling with the tiny dials
(or screws) inside the tuner?

Thanks.

Don't know. Probably you will just screw up your tuner.

Can anybody help me? Or can anybody tell me what I need in order to code it
myself.

Try camserv, or just searching on sourceforge for 'webcam'

Sadly, I lost my hack for this when my box was stolen earlier in the
summer. (If anyone did actually grab a copy of v4l-col and still has it
around, I'd appreciate a copy emailed back to me!)
