[PiTiVi] pitivi-0.10.2 Test on Gentoo

Hello,

I used pitivi today for the first time. I updated all Gentoo packages
needed to install 0.10.2. I'll post them later to bugs.gentoo.org.

I like to give you some feedback to this release. Perhaps some problems
are well known bugs or some plugins are missing on my system.

Test report (general):
----------------------

- started pitivi (OK)

- draged a video file (with nautilus) onto the left panel with: "Import
your clips by dragging them here or by using buttons below." This
doesn't work. I could only drag&drop into the video area. This does
playback the video, but not insert it into the list. (NOK)

- This was an at least "once bug": (NOK)

> pitivi
The program 'pitivi' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 135 error_code 3 request_code 3 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error()

I created a bug item for this, should be fixed real soon.

Ok, I'll do this if I've some time.

For now I created a raw german translation against current SVN. I
attached it to this E-Mail. It's not perfect and not all error messages
are translated. But I think it's a first translation beginning.

[PiTiVi] New member joining list

Hello,

My name is Brandon, I've been a linux user for about 3 years. I
currently run xubuntu 6.10 on an IBM T43. I became interested in your
project because I have felt for a long time that the free software
community lacks a decent video/general purpose media editor, but was
dissapointed to find many features unfinished. I used to be very
interested in in video editing as a hobby, but due to the high cost of
editing systems (and macs in general), I decided to give it up. But the
price of cameras is falling, and I hate to see people turn away from
linux for the sake of limited tools like iMove and various low-end
windows editors. Lately i've also been involved in a film archive based
in San Jose

I would like to contribute to this project if possible. I have a good
working knowledge of python, familiarity with basic techniques of video
editing and production, and a fair amount of experience with some older
NLE software (primarily adobe premiere 4.2) I could potentially
contribute in the following areas:

    * UI design, implementation, and testing
    * Documentation
    * some of the backend processing

I'd like to start playing around with the software. I was wonering if
anyone has done the following:

    * a set of sample media for testing playback capabilities
    * a set of sample projects which use the that media, test editing
functions
