Your version of mjpegtools is not compatible with Kino. Kino only
support versions 1.6.0 and 1.8.0 and not any beta or release candidate
versions.

You did not provide enough information. The version information for
ffmpeg is incomplete, you did not indicate Kino version, and you did
not describe what you are trying to do. More information makes other
people willing to help you.

I have to agree here :)

I've also received help from Dan in the past.

To show you what you can do with Kino (if you
didn't already know) I won a video competition
recently.

See Marcel Gagné's site:

Capture Kino-Ubuntu with Panasonic AG-DVX102B and MD-10000

Dear Friends,

I have all these days been using kino to capture my video with.
I have for long been using Slackware with an old version. "Kino 0.6.0"
It has been very good. I never upgraded it!
"if it ain't broke why fix it".

Now I am trying a new installation using:
Xubuntu 8.10
kino 1.3.0 which I have taken from the Ubuntu site.

It works fine in my old Camera Panasonic AG-DVC62
The Panasonic AG-DVC62 I have used for the last 2 years
and it has worked fine and still is.

I bought 2 new cameras and Ubuntu/Kino does not work in
either of them.
It does not work in my camera Panasonic AG-DVX102B
It does not work in my camera Panasonic MD-10000

Is there something I should do in the Setup of the camera for it to work.
Kino is detecting all 3 cameras correctly under IEEE 1394
I can see the input in the capture window from the lens
It will capture just ONE frame when I click on capture
and save that frame and that is all.

I have also bought a DataVideo SE-800 Video Mixer and hope to capture from that
Does anyone of you have any experience about capturing from that ?
Any instructions to help in the setup to capture using Kino via
fire-wire is helpful

MTS files, ffmpeg, -copyts option

Hi people.

I have finally found a solution to an issue with the ffmpeg import of
MTS files, which is triggered by Kino when I try to import MTS files
into a project. With the way ffmpeg is currently called, I get the video
playing at half-speed. But with the -copyts option ( copy timestamp,
apparently ), the video ( and audio ) is perfectly converted. I'm not
sure if this would apply to all MTS files, or just mine ( Panasonic
SDC5 ), but it would be great if Kino at least had an option to pass the
-copyts flag to ffmpeg, so I didn't have to manually convert files ( and
so other people don't hit the same issue ).

Thanks.

Dan

have you tried running Kino as root?

If there is no running timecode in the DV stream or the stream
indicates it is not playing at 1X forward, Kino will not save it.

tally lights

tally light is primarily for the camera operators' benefit.

man dvgrab... -nostop Disables sending the AV/C VTR stop command when
exiting dvgrab.

Wondering what other commands are available in the protocol, and how cameras
implement them.

The dvswitch guys are trying to figure out a cheap-n-easy way to have a light go
on when a dv stream is being used. (where used = stream selected in dvswitch
video mixer, so there will always be a stream coming from the camera.) I have a
feeling the consumer cams that are typically used won't have anything
appropriate for this.

Other ideas:
usb thumb drive + extension, use the 'mounted' light.

usb lamp, turn the usb power on/off, but that doesn't seem reliable (not much
here, other than 'doesn't really work'):

(05:21:10 AM) h01ger: daven, i arrived a usb hub which can be powered on and off
from the computer. attach leds, put it in a case, tally light done
(05:25:56 AM) p2-mate: h01ger: because USB hubs are supposed to be able to turn
off power to usb ports but don't actually do it IME
(05:27:25 AM) h01ger: it seems most/all on-board hubs cant do it, but there
external which can
(05:28:18 AM) p2-mate: I tried 4 external ones
(05:28:21 AM) p2-mate: none worked
(05:32:19 AM) p2-mate: on-board hubs don't do it indeed
(05:32:38 AM) p2-mate: except for 1 I found on some MIPS SoC
