OK, now I do not get segfaults if I built without
--enable-quicktime. But 1394 doesn't work on my machine, and
I've copied the .dv file from a macbook, that could get the
file off the camcorder. AND, I've copied the files from the
mac to my linux box.

BUt kino segfaults without the camcorder attached on 1394,
I've had to return the borrowed camcorder. How do I get kino
to work without a 1394 node attached??

I've rebuild ffmpeg (there have been many changes lately).
I've rebuilt quicktime then.
And finally I rebuilt kino and eventually got the segfault.

In the meantime, there is a new version of quicktime in Debian:

kino command line

Hello,

1. Is there a possibility of converting a raw dv file to a dv1/dv2
file using kino as a command line?

kino <filename> opens kino and adds the file to the playlist. I've
searched everywhere and found no answer.

2. Can i somehow use page_export_avi.cc and page_export.h to create a
simple application that will do my job? Can someone give me any hints?

THANK YOU!

No, sorry. If you have any coding skills, you might try adding separate
threads with buffering to test-mpeg2: one thread for 1394 i/o and another
for disk i/o. Then, add realtime scheduling policy.

I have no idea, and no one else has reported this problem, ever, IIRC. Can
you send a gdb backtrace for this situation using 'thread apply all bt' ?
We'll followup on your capture bug on the kinodv.org post, but I am out of
town this week and a bit hard to look things up like ohci error codes.
Something appears fundamentally wrong. It might help if you can quickly
install dvgrab 1.8 and see if it works.

No, but dvgrab will using --stdin option to tell it to fetch the DV from
stdin instead of 1394.

notebooks

Hi all

I've been making a few mods to kino for use as a video recorder - so
nothing major.

However, i would like kino to start with the capture page up by default
and can't seem to get that working.

I have placed the following code into the constructor of kino_common

/*** KPZ START ***/
//gtk_notebook_set_current_page( this->notebook, 1);
gint x = gtk_notebook_page_num (this->notebook, lookup_widget( widget,
"vbox_capture" ) );
//gint x = gtk_notebook_get_current_page( this->notebook );
cout << "\n\n\nKPZ:";
cout << x;
cout << "\n\n\n";
//gtk_widget_show_all(lookup_widget( widget, "vbox_capture" ));
//changePageRequest(1);
//this->setCurrentPage( 1 );
//gtk_notebook_next_page (this->notebook);
/*** KPZ STOP ***/

hopefully the commented out lines give you an idea of the kind of things
i've tried. When run with any method (above) for switching to page
3 it segfaults.

Any ideas on what i'm doing wrong.

Question

Hello Kino Developers,

I'm probably slightly off topic here, but I can't think of a better source
of the specific knowledge I'm looking for than this list.

An acquaintance asked me would like to record video clips, and asked if it
would be possible to slave DV cameras to a time code stream while recording
video. He could then later import the various video streams and they would
already be synchronized with the audio of his audio mixing console.

I figured that for this to be possible, it would be necessary to control the
frame clock of the cams via firewire. Possibly one could send a stream of
'locate' commands followed by 'record a frame' or something. As you can
probably tell, I have no clue about what possibilities there would be for
this, but I'd be willing to learn.

Could anyone enlighten me and/or point me to DV protocol specs?

Marc

in main.c, just _before_ gtk_main(), add:
notebookChangePage( 1 );

Clicking noise when dubbing audio

Hello,
I have a problem when dubbing an audio to a collection of scenes in Kino. What
I want is to put my own .wav files as a music to the video. I did that by
using FX, then on Audio Transition tab I chose Dub, then enter my own .wav
files. After I render the FX, and tried to play it, the resulting movie has a
click-click-click noise in the audio part, all throughout the dubbed sound. I
tried exporting it to generic mpeg and to DVD format, but still get the same
problem with the exported movie too.

I tried this with Kino-0.8.x and 0.9. I am not sure what casue this. The audio
(.wav) file is just something I rip from a CD. I made sure that the .wav file
itself is good and has no noise. I tried this with several different .wav
files already and all give me the same result

Any help on resolving this would be greatly appreciated. If I'm sending this
to the wrong list, I apologize, and please let me know where to ask this
question. I checked the archive, google, and FAQ but did get anything yet.

For your reference, my system is Fedora Core 4 64 bit version running on AMD64
3000Mhz, with a SATA drive. I compiled Kino myself from source.

Thanks in advance for any help.
