Editing MPEG files

Hi,

i'd like to edit MPEG data that i've captured with the
ivtv driver for my Hauppauge PVR350.

MPlayer and xine play these videos just fine.

"kino" complains "Invalid file specified" in a warning
box when i open an MPEG like that. I compiled kino-0.7.6
myself.

Where is the problem located? I get warnings on stderr
that when i select a file:

(kino:3941): Gtk-WARNING:**: Ignoring the separator setting

Is this a problem of the file selector box and not even of
the MPEG loader?

Are any problems like this known?

Best regards,
Torsten.

Linux Video Editor (LVE) might be your best bet outside Cinelerra:

This patch has been applied to CVS. Not directly, however, as you will see
some major changes have been checked into CVS for the coming 0.8.0
release :-)

multi-threaded timeline committed to CVS

Don't you hate how clicking a scene in the Timeline often "picks up" the scene
thumbnail to initiate a drag operation? Well, that is fixed now as I made the
timeline page multithreaded--just checked into CVS HEAD.

P.S. I was interviewed about Kino in the latest episode of The Link Link Tech
Show (http://tllts.info/) if you want to listen in.

Actually, this should really go in ${sysconfig}/hotplug... you
shouldn't ever hardcode /etc as an installation path.

Oddly enough, I submitted to a patch for this same issue on Saturday...
I joined the list first, then sent it, but I must not have waited long
enough because my patch is "awaiting moderator aproval".

Not only should it be ${sysconfig}/hotplug, the the variable should be
escaped out so that ${sysconfig} can still be modified at compile time
(as opposed to configure time).

Import with USB

Hello,

I'm a newbie with Kino.
I want to import video from my digital video camera (JVC GR-DV4000E) to
my computer. My computer don't have any IEEE connection. My camera have
an USB output so I want use it.
Is it possible with Kino ?

No, USB interface is used for downloading screenshot, but Kino works with DV
material.

No, and it is doubtful that you can that at all on Linux. I think the driver
to pull the video over USB is proprietary
(http://www.helpdrivers.com/ingles/listado/dow.asp?codigo=43996) whereas most
things on Firewire are standardized.
