Why don't you call this what this really is, a Cin3 meeting, instead
of the more generic terminology you used above? As it is it comes
across as propaganda.

	BUMMPERUMPH!! (en_EN)

The Official Popularity Contest has been launched!

In few minutes the 357 active subscribers of this list will be invited
to vote at the Condorcet Internet Voting Service.

You can express your preferences on the best 15 names of the ~250

the IRC meeting of the devs that will decide *the* name.

If you would like to vote but you haven't received the invitation,
please send me a mail and I'll add your address to the the voters list.

If you are curious to know how we applied the community criteria for
selecting just 15 names, you can look at the pipawiki page where every
step is documented.

Specifying an Alsa surround device

Hello,

I have a question about using Surround sound with Cinelerra. I can set the
number of channels to six, but that does nothing to where Cinellera outputs
those six channels. Programs like mplayer or xine have an option to specify
the Alsa device, and this is usually surround51 or surround71. In my case,
it's surround40routed, but that's because I specified my own alsa device to
convert 5.1 to 4.0.

In any case, the question is, how do I tell Cinelerra to use surround51 as
opposed to the default stereo device?

Thanks in advance.

How do we get there? is there a link? I haven't received any mail. (And I've checked my spam-trap).

Well, it looks like the machinery of the name decision has been put in
motion. The 6th is coming up fast. I'll see what I can do. I really
think it's important to make an informed decision, even if for just
myself!

I'll probably modify the usual focus method into something that can be
done in a day or two over the phone instead of an in-person interview.
Tomorrow I will try and post my methods to a website so others can
duplicate the survey for where they live. I will try and get something up
by noon pacific time tomorrow. If you are interested in the results, I'd
recommend holding off on voting, I should have some results back before
the ballot deadline.

That's the beauty of community development: You don't have to concern
yourself with that, instead leave it up to people who care and are willing
to do the work. That way you can keep on developing a kick-ass editing
program!

Agreed. You work on that. I will spend some time doing market research
among editors who do features, video, documentary, independent, news
production artists... and see what name will appeal to them the most.

See you on the 6th!

propaganda? for what?
what is wrong with keeping in mind the general situation?
after all, video editing *is* more than one specific application.

Hi Wiebe,

It's not really what you're asking but I just heard about xjadeo
(http://xjadeo.sourceforge.net/) and some discussion on irc suggests
it would be a very powerful solution, albeit outside of cinelerra e.g.
to use ardour for mixing the audio once you've done the compositing in
cinelerra.

Perhaps you can also do what you want through cinelerra, just thought
I'd mention it as an option.
