Font height definition.

Hi pigmenters!

I'd like to let you know that the definition of the font height for a
PgmText (pgm.Text for snake charmers) will change soon.
As of now (pigment 0.3.4 as well as trunk), the font height is defined
in canvas size, and due to some optimisations that we would like to
keep, when resizing a PgmText, we often avoid redrawing it, so that only
the texture is rescaled ...and the font height is not respected. This
leads to bugs such as #141 or #204.
The best solution to this issue (I think), is to define the font height
proportionally to the height of the drawable, ie with a font height of
1.0, your text will fill your drawable in height (provided it's got q's
and Č's or stuff like that in it).
This is what the attached patch does (against trunk). It should be on
trunk soon, and included in pigment 0.3.5 (which should be released
sometime this week).

A big side effect of this change, is that all applications using pigment
will have to change their font heights according to this new definition
to work with pigment trunk and 0.3.5, hence this message. Please try
this patch and change your applications if you don't want your texts to
be surprisingly small (or big, depending on the size you chose for your
canvas).

Hope this solves more problems than it fixes :)

Cheers,

Guillaume

list view options

When viewing a list of movies or TV shows with long titles all the differentiating text can be truncated which makes finding the correct file difficult.

A few potential solutions:
1. Ability to toggle on and off the preview thumbnail that shows on the right of the screen.  that way more of the file name can show.
2. Setting in elisa.conf where the beginning of files in a folder that match are removed. so for example if you have a folder for season 3 of Lost where all files are prefixed with 'Lost - S03E' then that text is removed and all files start 01, 02, 03, etc.
3. the file names scroll sideways.

The ability to do both would be the best of both worlds.

Hopefully I am not the only one having this next issue (so someone has the answer):
When resuming from standby my remote does not work until I exit and reenter elisa.  Is this something to do with lirc, pylirc, or elisa?  Any help would be much appreciated!

Other than these minor problems, I am loving the new version of elisa.  its very simple and easy to use.

I filed a ticket about this issue:

Re: Ubuntu Media Center at LugRadio Live USA 2008

Hi Adam and the LugRadio Team

thanks for this kind invitation and sorry for the late in answering.
I personally (and sadly) won't be able to attend this meeting.

I've cc'ed the whole (UMC and Elisa/Fluendo) teams for info, just in case.
I've already talked with the Elisa team to see if there was a room.
But they don't have money for such events ATM.

Maybe for the next time.

[Elisa 0.3.3] Youtube plugin

Hello everybody,

First of all, i am very impressed by the quality level of this new release !
Thank you guys !

As part of the UMC Team, i try to integrate it within a LiveCD and i hope
deliver a first attempt soon, but here it is not the subject of my mail.

I try Elisa 0.3.3 on my laptop and i have some troubles to make some plugins
working, especially the youtube plugin. Elisa start and works fine for the most
principal functions (music, videos).

I am running Elisa on top of Ubuntu 7.10 with latest patches.

For now here is what i am facing:

- I can't use the shoutcast plugin across proxy. It works fine from my home
(simple network) but not from my office (oh, yes at the office, i also work...
!)
- I can't find nor use the youtube plugin. Where is the menu to access it ?
should i modify the configuration file (i see it defined in the provider list) ?

What am i doing wrong ? Are they bugs or only configuration problem ? Is there
at any place an up to date documentation to configure properly the elisa.conf
file ?

Thanks,

Denis.

Elisa currently lacks HTTP_PROXY support:

Well you need to have python-gdata and gstreamer0.10-flv (from
elisa.fluendo/packages). Once you've got these deps, go to
Videos/Internet and you should see YouTube.

But you won't be able to play youtube videos with the current release,
you need to apply this patch:

Re: [Elisa 0.3.3] Youtube plugin

Wow, thanks for your quick reply !

Effectively, with the dependencies you mentioned, i have now more option in the
menu (youtube, flickr, ...) that i did not have before.

In fact, i removed everything (elisa and all its dependencies), delete the
~/.elisa/ directory, and install the elisa-extras meta package, and now it's
good ! The differencies is that i previously installed elisa instead of
elisa-extras.

This evening, at home i will try your patch to test the youtube plugin.

Thank a lot Philippe !

Cheers,

Denis.

We've never had the initial discussion so that I can boostrap you on
what I already did...
Maybe a lunch next week ;-)
We can still be in time for some unofficial HH alpha ISOs...
