reference links

New feature suggestion.

Given an entry in my library, I would like to add to it (as I would add
a note) a link to another entry in my library or someone else's entry.
Keeping track of cross-references might be useful to a lot of people,
given the ubiquitous nature of references in academic papers.

For some people, this feature can track down where an idea or
experimental detail originates, or how it has propagated through
published papers.

arXiv plugin bug/feature?

Hi all,

I noticed that when CiteULike's arXiv plugin processes an eprint that
has several versions, the date fields (YEAR, MONTH, DAY) are set
according to the latest version. Is this behaviour intended? I would
expect the date to be set to the earliest version.

Example:
<http://arXiv/abs/math.GT0403033>, which is originally posted on Mar
25, 2004, with version 2 uploaded by the authors to arXiv yesterday,
has been dated Jul 06, 2005 by CiteULike (see
<http://www.citeulike.org/user/ansobol/article/248894>).

Best,
Andrei

missing feature: citation information in overview (as well as some other ideas)

Hi,

First I'd like to say that I very much like the citeulike service.

Apart from some ideas/suggestions I already mailed to camster (I'll copy
the relevant parts below), I have one strong desire: in each overview
(library), as well as in the RSS feeds, there is no citation information
in the description of papers unless it is a paper from a journal.

I'd appreciate it very much if, when the journal field is empty, the
booktitle field, and year and pages, will be given instead. In this way
conference papers will also have some citation information in the overviews.

Thanks a lot!
   Mathijs

PS: I've some other ideas for future development of your site (some of
which you may already have planned for... sorry I didn't check that):

- BibTeX export gives bibtex-keys that directly refer to citeulike id's.
I'd like an automatic generation of 1stAuthorYear tags like "Weerdt04"
or 1stAuthorYear+titlewords as Citeseer does.

- I'd really like to extend the (advanced) Searching/Browsing/Viewing of
articles with some more options: e.g. select on:
* set of users
* my rating (e.g. "might read" or higher)
and order on:
* recency (added)
* date (published)

Desktop Tool for extracting citations from the web..

Havent had a chance to play with this - looks interesting (although
its doing a similar job to citeulike)

unstandardized biblographic references from email alerts, journal Web

Network issues and server move

The university currently hosting CiteULike is having some network
issues, which mean that the site is currently inaccessible.

The bad news is that the particular switch which seems to have failed
isn't officially supported at the weekend. I've contacted the chap
responsible for it to see if there's anything we can do, but there's
the real risk that it might not be available until 9am UK time tomorrow.

The good news is that I now have a co-located server at the Redbus
data centre in Docklands, London. They've got proper redundant
network infrastructure, its own generator, and promises of an
availability of a percentage vanishingly close to 100%. I'm going to
be moving the server there as soon as I've ported some of the Mac OS
X specific parts to Linux - certainly within the next two weeks. I
anticipate this should be possible with only minimal downtime.

tagging

I have 2 comments/requests about tagging:

1) Would it be possible to rename a particular tag and
have it apply to all the articles so tagged? For
example, take every article tagged "X" and change the
tag to "Y"?

2) Would it be possible to tag multiple articles with
the same tag all at once? It seems like an easy way
to do this would be to have a toggle box and check off
several articles to perform an action on, much like in
an email inbox.

Thank you! We love your site so far, and look forward
to using it a lot more in the future once we get
settled into it.

search capabilities

Is there any way that, when searching my own library,
the search results could be displayed in the same way
that it would appear if I simply selected one tag to
look at? I would like to be able to see all of the
articles and all of their tags/authors/titles at once,
rather than the LiveSearch thing.

Thank you so much!

Server move

I've just moved CiteULike to its new home on a dedicated Linux box
hosted at the Redbus datacentre in London. It all seems to have gone
relatively smoothly, but can you send any bug reports directly to me
and not the list please?

Thanks,

Richard.
