Initial Comment:
When I press Ctrl-F to get the "Find in DVI file"
dialog box, I would like to be able to type the text to
searched for provided that the dialog box has focus. 
Unfortunately, the text can be typed only if the mouse
pointer is above the text input area.  This is rather
inconvenient.

xdvik version 22.81.1 (Xaw toolkit)

After opening a document at page 1 and changing to page
2, an area of the highlighting of page 1 is not erased;
see attached screenshots. A minimal example of a Motif
list doesn't have this problem, so it's not a problem
with the widget itself, but maybe with the drawing not
being updated when the geometry changes after
initialization (the way we create these widgets is
rather messy ...)

Motif version gets blanked-out squares in
text-selection mode when moving the mouse and
left-clicking. This sounds like 
`Mouse-1 in Ruler mode and Text Selection mode is broken'
in texk/xdvik/LESSTIF-BUGS, but it happens with Motif
1.2.4.

Currenlty the psfrag replacement strings are just
listed in the margin of the page (this seems to be
achieved by some trickery inside the .sty). It would be
nice if xdvi could actually perform the string
replacements, just as Postscript does.

Saving to pdf or to ps, or printing dvi to file, the file in question is 
saved in the root directoy, and not in the working directory.

The temp files produced when saving to pdf will not be deleted.

In the opening dialog, navigating with the mouse does not work, I 
have to use the enter key.

Related to the above, could the following features be implemented:

In the xdvik settings:
The user can choose a directory where files are saved.

The user can specify some external viewer that automatically

Summary: improve file selector

Initial Comment:
For implementing the `Browse ...' button for the `save
as' and `print' dialogs, we need more flexibility in
the file selector. The Xaw fileselector has various
aspects that are more or less broken (`..' not
displayed initially, weird behaviour when navigating
directories etc.) so that it would be a good idea to
replace it entirely. 

The gv implementation has a rather nice widget
implementation of a file selector, but it should be
modified to omit some unneeded  things that only add
visual noise (the hierarchical window above the
directories, the buttons `mask' and `directories') and
make others more obvious (add labels `directories' and
`files', add full paths to left panner). In the end, I
guess this would mean to make it look like the Motif
