frames about multiple lines of text

HI, Everyone,
Greetings.
Can someone tell me how to put a frame about multiple lines of text? The
statements \fbox and \framebox work for ONE line text statements. How do you
do it for multiple lines?
Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Thanks,
D.Owen

First put the lines in a \parbox and then enclose the \parbox in an
\fbox or \framebox.

LaTeX eval

Is there some way of evaluating a string that contains latex commands ?
Something like the eval() of Perl.

Why don't you try TeXnic Center or LyX, which is Open and free.
Visit http;//www.lyx.org or http://www.toolscenter.org

Newest version of xstrings package does the job.

Query on printing with 'screens'

Hi all:

I'm a Lyx user in Goa, and hope you won't mind me intruding.

Every time I go in for a book, to be printed via offset, my printer
has a problem. He takes the PDF file and attempts to do crazy things
like importing it into Windows/Corel Draw, etc.

He says the photos won't print because they don't have a screen.

Query:

* Is he right?

* Is there some way of putting a screen on the photos? LyX takes TeX
commands, so maybe if there's one I could use it.

Earlier, he was struggling to find how to print the file laterally
inverted (mirror image), and we found the command after some search.

Best, FN

PS: A cc'd reply to me would be highly appreciated...

This is a common problem as people in print shops only know those
tools! I had a similar problem with a guy here in Chennai who was
supposed to print our Institute ID cards.

Your best bet is to ask him to specify what format he would like the
file in and "convert" your file to that format. ("convert" is a tool
for converting a file in one format to another format; you can also
use "ghostscript").

It is possible that he does not know the answer to that question
either. (Our chennai guy did not). So drop some hints like JPEG,
BMP, 1600x1200 and other such resolution relevant information which
is "Windows sounding". If he can print JPEG then ask to see a sample
of his work --- the actual JPEG file and the final print and use the
properties menu on his Windows machine to get the information about
the JPEG file --- resolution and color model.

If you get the relevant information and don't know how to proceed ask
here again!

Best of luck,

Kapil.

True, TeX does not add a screen to images as some of the proprietary
systems like Quark, et al do. But that is not an excuse for the
inability of your print house to print the document. He can very well
use the default screen which is what he should have done in the first
place. Better consider the option of changing the printer to a more
knowledgeable one. If not, you will have to hear a lot undeservedly
about the abilities of free software. You can't prove the point to
your amateurish printer that the grandiose color catalogue of 'Ikea'
was typeset with pdfTeX and there were no problems of printing by its
printer (it was reported in the pdfTeX list).
