Sorry, I don't think I can.

No. Soon TeXLive will release TeX and friends as Debian packages.

Sorry to provide partial information.

TeXLive CD has archives that can be installed in Linux. Indeed it has
installation scripts to install TeX system in Linux and a variety of
operating systems.

(no subject)

Dear Sir,
In a oneside book I want to do the following:
In the header, the left hand side will print section heading (upto three words and dots for longer names)
with section number (such as -- 1.2 This is a ..... in place of section 1.2 This is a latex file), the right
hand side will print page number. A line will be printed just after that.

How to do that?

Biplab Raychaudhuri

Problem with inserting figures

(small correction from the previous mail)

Hi all,

 When I insert figure in my latex file it is not accepting.
it gives me the error:

! Extra }, or forgotten \endgroup.

------
Heres what I do:

\begin{figure}
\includegraphics{pic.png}
\caption{some title}
\label{fig:1}
\end{figure}

I also tried with various extensions .bmp .jpg .pdf etc.
every time the same problem. In the preamble I gave the command

\DeclareGraphicsExtensions{.eps,.pdf,.ps,.png,.jpg,.bmp}
and I am using the package "graphicx"

Without the "figure" command the file runs properly.

I run PDFLaTeX. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rijo.

Well, and there is the extra }. Nothing to do with graphics
inclusion. A simple syntax error, and TeX diagnoses it completely
accurately.

Re: Problem with inserting figures

\includegraphics{pic.png}}
                                                                  ^ is the
problem. There is an extra bracket. Remove it and things should be fine.

Problem in DVI viewer?

To day we created a docuent using ProTeXt with rotating package.

We needed a sidewaystable. We used the sidewaystable environment to create the table. The tex file is
compiling without any complaints but and on viewing the DVI file no rotation is found and table shifted to
bottom right and out of margin. When we compiled a pdf document, everything is fine in the pdf document
(table rotated properly). Is it a problem with the DVI viewer, i.e., Yap?

The same is true for my Linux version of TeX also. The viewer is Xdvi. If I produced a pdf file with the same code
using pdfLaTeX, the pdf output is alright, i.e. the table is rotated properly.

 Other user's experience is highly welcomed.

Thanking you,
