\cite bibtex

Dears

I have just moved to miktex2.9 and I am using it under Emacs 24.0.50.1

In earlier versions I just point at

\cite command in command menu of emacs and then I am directed to my bib
file to get the reference I need

The \cite command does not exist now in the command menu of eamcs

Does anyone know how to do the same in miktex2.9

Thanks in advance

Ayman

Re: \cite bibtex

Hi,

Also using Miktex2.9, I don't know if this works but I have

\usepackage[super, sort]{natbib}
\bibpunct{(}{)}{}{a} {,}{}{} % required for natbib

to use \cite and \citep, so far no problem.

(note: since it's for a small project I'm also using \bibliographystyle{plainnat} before references
section, but I don't think there would be a difference.)

good luck!
bye!

Re: \cite bibtex

I have no idea how this works, but this is not native emacs/xemacs/gnu emacs behavior. It is probably
behavior of some kind of add-on package. I use auctex for LaTeX support, and there are probably other
tools. Do you remember installing such an add-on tool?

In addition, you say "\cite command in command menu of emacs" - I find no such command. The 'command menu' has
many subcommands. You need to very specifically indicate exactly what command you selected.

AFAIK, to upgrade the packages installed in c:\program files\Miktex, you
need to run the admin version. The non-admin version will install
packages in your users home directory.

My suspicion is that [2.9] miktex-makefmt is reading a configuration file
from the MiKTeX 2.7 installation. I had a similar problem creating formats
and Ulrike Fischer made the suggestion which fixed the problem.

 From MiKTeX-Users Digest, Vol 54, Issue 1:

My miktex 2.9. doesn't show the etex engine in the entry of latex
and there are no updates waiting.

Did you add local roots from older miktex versions to your miktex
2.9? If yes check if they contain an outdated formats.ini.

Ulrike Fischer

I had added MiKTeX as a local root (probably not a good idea!) - so the
problem was resolved when I renamed the [2.7] formats.ini.

pmx update

The package for the pmx pre-processor for musixtex has recently been
upgraded. But the corresponding pmx binary (miktex-pmx-bin) was not
upgraded at the same time.

P.S. I have a vague recollection that when this happened before I was
instructed to run the update wizard; but when I try to do that, I get
just the message

The Update helper could not be found.

IMHO, for a beginner you are trying to do too much at a time:
first of all, you should be aware of the fact that `tecniCenter' ,
`miktex 2.9' and all that have nothing to do (at least directly)
with LaTeX, but are auxiliary tools to simplify the writing of a
source file (LaTeX among others) -- IF YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT
YOU ARE DOING.

So again IM(biased)HO, taking a look at a LaTeX manual, for
example

night be worth your while.

Hope this hilft!
