As MikTeX 2.7 is installed on the machine, it is giving: (just the
beginning)

PowerUser: no
SharedSetup: yes

Update Wizard problem

Hello!

I've just installed MikTeX 2.8. Everything worked fine. However, when I wanted to use the update wizard in
the package manager, I got an error message (I'm not at home at the moment, but it's something like:)
"Update helper could not be found."

Is this a know issue? (I've checked the known issues on the MikTeX page, but couldn't find it there. However,
I only have limited access to the internet here and can't do all the searches I would like to do).

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Re: Update Wizard problem

It seems that the update wizard shall not be started from within the
package manager any more, as the menu entry disappeared from the QT
version of Mpm but was accidentally left in the MFC version and is
non-functional now.

However, I and probably other users too would appreciate if it got
back to Mpm. Updating is a task which is naturally related to package
administration.

Thanks and regards,

MikTeX 2.8 Package Manager problem

Thanks for the advice! Now I now that I don't have to keep trying.

I followed the advice here: http://docs.miktex.org/manual/updating.html.
( = package updates via 'Update', not the package manager).

*.synctex to follow *.pdf

I am currently using the switches "-output-directory=" and
"-output-directory=" to take my final PDF and auxiliary files to another
directory than the .tex file, but I am a bit disappointed that the .synctex
file is not concerned and stay with .tex. Then all direct and inverse search
are impossible. Any idea ? Thank you very much.

That's a known problem. See the bug report:

Greek fonts

Hi,
	The dvi produced by my MikTeX 2.7 does not show the Greek letters in
an embedded eps figure. Ghost view shows the Greek letters correctly;
therefore, I suppose that there is a problem with the MikTeX
installation. How can I know which font I need to install it?
	Thanks in advance

Re: Greek fonts

Hi,

It is the problem with the MikTeX Ghostscript. One way of the solution of
the pointed problem is to replace the file 'mgs.exe' (...\MikTeX
2.7\miktex\bin) with the file 'gswin32c.exe' from Ghostscript installation.
File 'gswin32c.exe' should be renamed to 'mgs.exe' at that.

Sincerely,
Gennadij V. Sotnikov

I guess you are looking only at the eps in ghost view, this doesn't
show the complete story. Convert the dvi to ps with dvips and then
check this file in gsview. Does is work without problem?

MetaPost under MiKTeX 2.8

Hi all,

There is a serious problem concerning the use of MetaPost under MiKTeX
2.8. Please consider the file test.mp whose contents are:

prologues := 0;
beginfig(1)
   dotlabel.bot(btex dot etex,(0,0));
endfig;
end

If I compile it then I get this error:

(C:\Documents and Settings\C\My Documents\test.mpmakempx: File
C:/Documents*and*
Settings/C/My*Documents/test.mp could not be found.
mpost: The operation failed for some reason.
mpost: Data: C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.8\miktex\bin\makempx.EXE

The problem does not concern the program mpost.exe in itself; it has to
do with the program mpmakempx.exe, which is used whenever a document
contains text. And it also has to do with spaces in directory names. In
fact, if I copy the same file to the root of a pen-drive and I compile
it there, then I have no problem.

Is there any other way to avoid this problem?

Best regards,

Jose Carlos Santos
