xetex update

Dear Christian,

The are many significant changes in XeTeX. Is is possible to update XeTeX to the last version (0.9995.0 or later)?

Best,

Wenchang

I am planning to apply the changes in MiKTeX 2.8. If possible, I will do
the same for the 2.7 version.

Thanks! I'm not sure I followed the instructions (my German is really
bad) but it gave me a clue. I removed all the German hyphenations
(I'm not using them anyway) and everything is working properly again.

Bloated PDF files after last update

I recently updated MiKTeX 2.7, and since then all newly-recompiled PDF
files (either directly by pdflatex, or indirectly via dvipdfm) become
significantly larger than they used to be. The increase typically
exceeds than 100Kb, which is rather disappointing. I suspect that the
latest version (6/30) of the cm font package might be responsible. Any
insights?

Thanks,
Spyridon

It should be in the root UserData or CommonData

C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\<user>\Lokale Einstellungen\Anwendungsdaten\MiKTeX\2.7\dvips\config

If not, call initexmf --mkmaps (or updmap) on the command line.

\leftarrow display problem

Hello,

I just installed the full package of MikTex 2.7 downloaded on 6 July 2009.

I use Winedt 5.6 and Windows XP to compile my latex document. However,
after I use "dvi2pdf" function to convert the output to pdf, all the
$\leftarrow$ notations disappear.

I try to do the above thing on MikTex 2.5, but in this case, no problem
is found and all the $\leftarrow$ notations can be displayed properly.

Could someone give me advice how to solve this problem?

Thanks so much and looking forward to your reply.

Peter

Possibly someone else (Ulrike Fischer! ?) will give you some quicker
and more specific help, but if not: why dont you try the sequence

         dvi --> ps --> fdf

Re: \leftarrow display problem

Thanks Cornelius.

Yes, I did dvi -> ps -> pdf. In this case, $\leftarrow$ can be
displayed properly. However, I would like to use "dvi2pdf" function
directly to generate pdf file because it is more convenient.

Any suggestions are welcome.

The dvi2pdf-button in winedt uses dvipdfm.

The cm-package has been updated recently and the pfb-files has
changed, eg. they are now using unicode names for the glyph. I guess
dvipdfm can't cope with it. But dvipdfmx seems to work fine. So I
suggest to change to dvipdfmx. In winedt this is done in
option ->execution modes. Get the bat mentioned there for dvipdfm, make
a copy under the name of dvipdfmx, change the executable in the
bat-file and use this instead.
