And maybe someone else should make a New Year's resolution to be nicer when
dealing with problems. English isn't the first language of everyone who
posts here.

[MiKTeX] How to make metapost recognize Hebrew fonts?

Hello,

I was trying to create a figure using metapost.
Everything went fine, except that "btex < Hebrew text > etex" did not show
anything after LaTexing it (using eLaTex which allow Hebrew text).
It did not show a mistake either. Latin fonts showed up perfectly.

How can I make metapost recognize Hebrew text?

I wish you all a happy new year,

Michael Maschler

[MiKTeX] Restatement of the question

Hi Miktex list users:
I appologize for the vagueness in my post. I am a new user and it was
late when I posted. The problem wasn't language but rather
computer-generated frustration.
To clarify:
I am trying edit an article that is to be published in an elsevier
magazine. I use winedt to edit my files, which in turn uses Miktex.
I could not incorporate the elsevier package into Miktex, which is
needed to compile the file that the journal has returned to me for
editing. This appears to some problem between Miktex and Elsevier.
I then found the fix to manually incorporate the elsevier package into
Miktex that was suggested by Agustín E. Bolzán in a message

> 11/28/2003 to the problem of installing the elsart.cls package. ...
> >> put elsart.cls in localtexmf\tex\latex\elsevier and refesh the
> >> file name database.

I implemented this fix and
I think that I refreshed the database, but maybe I did something else to
mess things up. At this point I returned to using WINedt and found that
Winedt could not recognized .tex files. That is, although the file is
loaded in winedt, it doesn't appear to know what a .tex file is. The
message I get is:
This is TeX, Version 3.141592 (MikTeX 2.2)
! I can't find file 'example.tex'.
<*> example.tex

Please type another input file name:

Even though the file is loaded and visible on the screen. I have since

Copyright problems I believe.

Yes, this is the correct way to proceed.

[MiKTeX] Viewing an A0 poster in A4 size

Hi,
I am trying to create poster (A0 size) using the
a0posterx package. My documentclass declaration is:
\documentclass[portrait,a0b,draft]{a0poster}

The 'draft' parameter is supposed to resize the A0
poster to A4 size so that a prinout can be easily
taken on a regular a4 size paper.

However, when I create a postscript file using dvips
and view it in ghostview, the poster is not being
displayed in A4 size.

I am not sure if this is a problem with MikTex or with
dvips software.

I appreciate any suggestions about this.

Thanking you in advance!

Re: [MiKTeX] Restatement of the question

If you really, really, really don't want to pay for WinEdt, you
might consider trying TexnicCenter. It has similar capabilities
and is free. See

[MiKTeX] dvips shifts page up i.e. decreases top margin

Hello All and Wish you a happy new year,

I am having a notorious problem ever since I installed
MikTex 2.3. When I view the .dvi file in yap the
margins are ok but when I generate the .ps file using
dvips the top margin decreases by constant amount
(around 1.5cm) on all the pages. Has anyone
experienced this before and know the solution? I do
not want to solve this by putting extra margin in my
style file. Is my page settings wrong somewhere? How
to correct it?

siddharth

Agreed. The problem *may* be that the file example.tex is located in the
texmf or localtexmf tree. If so, move the file to for example C:\somedir,
and try compiling again. (The localtexmf tree isn't for temporary files.)
