Too many fonts?

Hi:

i think i may use too many fonts in my mp file so i got this error:

This `infont' operation won't produce anything because I
don't have enough room to store the character-size data for
the font. You may have to ask a wizard to enlarge me.


i tried to modify font_max in texmf.cnf but it didn't work
