Howdy,

When you install MacTeX the map files are NOT rebuilt including all the map files in texmf-local. There are
two things you can do: have a script that installs the new map files or build a special map file that does the
equivalent when you run `sudo updmap-sys`. I do the former and the script I use is attached:

Attachment (setupmapfiles.sh): application/octet-stream, 1665 bytes

and I make it executable and store it in /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/scripts/ for safe keeping.

Strange Behavior in TeXShop

I'm running version 2.36 of TeXShop under Mac OS X 10.6.4 on a recent Intel iMac. All of my preferences are
pretty much Out-Of-The-Box. When I bring up TeXShop, either by double-clicking on its icon or from the
Dock, the File:OpenRecent menu item displays only the grayed-out "Clear Menu" selection. It doesn't
seem to be aware that I've been using TeXShop for quite a long time and doesn't remember anything I had open
in the recent past.

Is this a bug, or is there a hidden preference somewhere that controls the number of items it's supposed to remember?

Check the value set in the Appearance panel of System Preferences. I think this changed in Snow Leopard; for
some reason, Apple decided those values should apply to the per-application menus as well as the Apple menu.

compressing files az .zip

Sorry if my question is irrelevant to TeX. I maintain some TeX macro packages and recently I have moved to Mac OSX 10.6.4 but when I compress my packages as .zip for uploading them to CTAN, this zip file contains some Mac files. How can I remove these extra Mac files from the zip file?

That's fixed it. Thanks.

you could use http://www.sopht.jp/cleanarchiver/ to avoid this.

Re: compressing files az .zip

Don't use the Finder's "create archive" thing to start with. zip (the command line utility) works, but you
might want to search someplace like MacUpdate looking for a GUI.

Also, turn on invisible files in the Finder (OnyX should do this for you) and delete those .DS_Store files in
the folders you want to compress.

You could consider BetterZip: http://macitbetter.com/
for both zipping and unzipping.
Very good and also lets you QuickLook archives.
In its Preferences you can turn on/off what it does with the Mac specific stuff.
It costs 20USD.

Howdy,

that is probably the default setting. There is also a hidden preference that you should be able to set if you
want the TeXShop value to be different from the System Wide value: e.g., to set the limit to 15 use

defaults write TeXShop NSRecentDocumentsLimit 15

which is what I use.

Howdy,

Those extra files are usually resource forks (._xxxxx) and .DS_Store files.

Look at `Clean Archiver' at <http://www.sopht.jp/cleanarchiver/> and download the 2.4a4 version (very
stable in spite of the `a' designation) from the Download page at
<http://www.sopht.jp/cleanarchiver/downloads.html>. That software allows you to remove those
files when compressing.
