CTAN Update: hyph-utf8

On Sat, 30 May 2009 Mojca Miklavec and Arthur Reutenauer submitted an update to
the

  hyph-utf8

package.

Modern native UTF-8 engines such as XeTeX and LuaTeX need hyphenation patterns
in UTF-8 format, whereas older systems require hyphenation patterns in the 8-bit
encoding of the font in use (such encodings are codified in the LaTeX scheme
with names like OT1, T2A, TS1, OML, LY1, etc).

The present package offers a collection of conversions of existing patterns to
UTF-8 format, together with converters for use with 8-bit fonts in older
systems. Since hyphenation patterns for TeX are only read at iniTeX time, it is
hoped that the UTF-8 patterns, with their converters, will completely supplant
the older patterns.

Issues with 3D labels and texpath, both in inlinetex mode
and with the
ConTeXt TeX engine, were resolved. A bug in bezulate was
fixed. A partial
workaround was added for the unimplememented
-output-directory ConTeXt
option (the current directory must still be writeable). The
aspect ratio
and viewportmargin calculation in module three was improved,
with tighter
3D bounds. A bug in the intersections(path3, surface)

CTAN has a new package: tabularew

This package is new at tug.ctan.org and should soon be at your local mirror.

The following information was provided by our fellow contributor:

Author's name: Diego Saba
Location on CTAN: /macros/latex/contrib/tabularew
Summary description: tabular extension to improve alignment of multicolumn cells
License type: lppl

Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The tabularew environment is similar to tabular (LaTeX kernel) but adds
a new command to modify the horizontal alignment in certain circumstances.

It solves the problem of centering multicolumn headings when they are
wider than the text underneath them. (In a tabular environment they are
aligned to the left, even if they contain a "c" in their preamble.)

It is actually a workaround for a (mis)feature of TeX alignment algorithm.

Comments and suggestions are welcome, especially for the user interface.
