Thanks for your new version but: please upload text files in text mode
next time, not in binary mode. It's quite boring to convert carriage
returns to line feed chars.

All available CTAN maintainers have voted to put the new version
in the old place because it's mainly a LaTeX package with coincidally
supports languages, just like the Babel system. So I installed the
files in macros/latex/contrib/supported/polyglot.

ANNOUNCEMENT: BibTool 2.41

BibTool 2.41 has been mirrored yesterday from my ftp-Server to the CTAN. It
can be found there in the directory:

        /tex-archive/biblio/bibtex/utils/bibtool/

Recent changes:

- Version 2.41
New boolean resource print.equal.right which controls whether
the = in normal entries is aligned right or left.

New boolean resource print.wide.equal which controlls whether
the equal sign is surrounded by spaces even if the alignment
        forces a narrower layout.

New boolean resource print.comma.at.end which controlls
whether the comma between fields is printed at the end or at
the beginning of a fiel/value pair.

New boolean resource print.deleted.entries which controls the
treatment of deleted entries. If this resource is true then
delete entries are put as comments into the output. This is
the old behavior and thus it is the default.

        Pseudo field `sortkey' added.

Pseudo field `source' added which contains the filename the
record has been read from or the empty string if this can not
        be determined.

Thanks for the submission. I installed the new version on ftp.dante.de
as suggested.

dotless j package

Following on from a continuing thread on comp, text.tex about providing
dotless j (\j, \jmath) for those fonts that do not contain the
character, I have placed a dotlessj.sty package for LaTeX in
macros/latex/contrib/supported/carlisle

This package will define a \j by removing the dot from a j by covering
it with a white rule. It requires the standard LaTeX color package.

Using a coloured rule (as opposed to alternatives such as applying a
PostScript clip path) has some disadvantages, but it seems to be the
most portable solution as it does not require any explicit PostScript
support. This package should work with the OzTeX previewer, and has
been tested with the Y&Y dviwindo previewer, and pdftex/acrobat,
in addition to the normal PostScript route via dvips.

David

If you pick up the file too quickly you will find that I left the rule
as yellow rather than white for debugging purposes.
If your copy has the line
  {\color{yellow}%
please change it to
  {\color{white}%

etex support

I have just placed an `etex' package on ctan in
macros/latex/contrib/supported/carlisle/etex.sty

The extended TeX variant, etex 1.1, comes with some macro files to
provide some slightly higher level interfaces and allocation commands
to access the extended primitives of etex. These files, etex.src and
etexdefs.lib, are designed for plain TeX based formats. This package
makes similar facilities available for LaTeX.

LaTeX support for old german fonts

A new and enhanced

LaTeX support package for the old german fonts

is now available in the CTAN directory

    macros/latex/contrib/supported/yfonts .

The package yfonts.sty supports the old german fonts `Gotisch',
`Fraktur', `Schwabacher' and `Initialen' designed by Yannis
Haralambous.

In contrast to oldgerm.sty the package provides a full *NFSS
interface*, and it may be used in conjunction with
*german.sty*. The package comes as a documented LaTeX source
with an installation script and an example document.

This software replaces my now obsolete package fraktur.sty,
which has been removed. Major changes are:

  * support for the gothic font, too
  * various bug fixes
  * better documentation

Greetings

Walter Schmidt

new backbone ctan host at tug2.cs.umb.edu

The TeX Users Group is pleased to announce the availability of a new
CTAN host at:
  ftp://tug2.cs.umb.edu/tex-archive/

We gratefully acknowledge Dante for donating the machine (a Sparc 10)
and the Computer Science department at the University of Massachusetts
at Boston for providing the network connection.

Thanks to Norm Walsh, a search engine for CTAN holdings is available at:
  http://tug2.cs.umb.edu/ctan/

tug2 is a full CTAN site and therefore holds the same data as the other
backbone CTAN nodes: ftp://ftp.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive, run by the
University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory; and
ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive, run by DANTE e.V. It replaces the old
host ftp.shsu.edu (which has not been operational for some time). It
does not, however, currently support submissions. Please continue to
use the incoming directories at ftp.tex.ac.uk or ftp.dante.de for that.

Users should, as always, use the CTAN site closest to them; there are
mirrors throughout the world. A list is appended to this message; you
can get a current list via finger ctan@... or the file
CTAN.sites at any CTAN host.

North American mirror sites should consider using this new host instead
of the European hosts. Doing so should improve performance for
everyone. There is no special account for mirroring at present, so it
should be done via normal anonymous ftp.

We hope to make the system available via the name ctan.tug.org eventually;

I have installed these two programs on CTAN in directory
fonts/utilities/accfonts
