I have installed the package as requested, at ftp.tex.ac.uk

Thanks, Alan, for the submission.

New package smartmn in macros/latex/contrib/supported/jknappen

I have uploaded a new package smartmn to

tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/supported/jknappen

This package activates the minus sign such that it guesses whether to
print as a hyphen or as minus sign in text mode (which is one of the most
common typografical errors in LaTeX texts).

There is a small drawback of it: the em dash (---) must be entered as
\emdash.

Thanks a lot, I installed the package in

Signing off the CTAN-Ann list

The CTAN-Ann list is no longer maintained at SHSU (which has withdrawn
from CTAN operations). To sign off from the list, you should send
mail saying

  signoff ctan-ann

to listserv@...

Sending mail to SHSU (as several subscribers have done recently)
merely deposits a mail message in my inbox. Every so often I
translate those mails into commands to remove people from the list at
Heidelberg. However, I'm a busy man, and I give that work rather low
priority. If you want to be removed from the Heidelberg list, *don't*
mail me (directly or indirectly [via SHSU]), mail the listserv!

New version of AMS-LaTeX released

An interim release of the AMS-LaTeX version 1.2 macro collection has
been posted.

This release fixes a number of bugs, and documents others that have
not yet been fixed, but are known and are on the list for attention
when time becomes available. The documentation has been extensively
revised and users are requested to pay careful attention to the
READ.ME file. In particular, AMS-LaTeX 1.2 now requires a version
of LaTeX2e no earlier than December 1994.

The canonical home site for this collection is e-math.ams.org for ftp,
or at http://www.ams.org/tex for those who prefer a Web connection.
The collection has also been mirrored onto CTAN (locations shown are
relative to the root of the tex archive at the particular site):

location on e-math: location on CTAN:

  /pub/tex/amslatex under macros/latex/packages/amslatex

The other AMS collections are available from the same AMS servers
and have now been installed on CTAN in these new locations:

location on e-math: location on CTAN:

  /pub/tex/amsfonts under fonts/amsfonts
  /pub/tex/amsltx11 under macros/latex209/contrib/amslatex
  /pub/tex/amstex under macros/amstex

At CTAN, the changes have been made at ftp.tex.ac.uk and ftp.dante.de;
they will propagate to the mirrors in due course.

Re: Yplan97

Dick Nickalls writes (an embarrassingly long time ago):

These files (which continue the service Dick started to offer last for
calendar year 1996) are now installed at ftp.tex.ac.uk in
macros/latex/contrib/other/yplan97

Thanks again, Dick, for the submission. I'll try and remember to
delete the yplan96 directory around the end of this year...

I've installed it as macros/latex/contrib/other/misc/advdate.sty

Thanks for the contribution.

PS -- please address upload mail to ctan@...
(ctan-mgr <at> shsu was never the right place for it, and we're not using
SHSU at any time when we can avoid it just now).
