2.0 Release Candidate 2

Hello everyone,

The next release candidate is available:

There were a ton of bugs fixed in this and lots of new hardware is
supported. All in all a big step forward towards 2.0! Thanks to
everyone who helped with this and sent in feedback. It has been a busy
month of development!

Enjoy your weekend,
- Michael

Askozia 2.0rc2 and 1.0.3 experiences

Hi,

I've been playing a little with Askozia, and hope that it's useful to
share some of the things I stumbled upon.

I started with the latest 2.0rc2, but found that after booting the
system did not respond to my USB keyboard. (I'm testing on a Dell
Optiplex GX280.) Fortunately, the system used DHCP and I was able to use
the webinterface and ssh in, so no showstopper there.

The Askozia 1.0.3 release did work properly with my USB-keyboard, BTW.

During the boot I also noticed that my USB disk was not recognized. Not
sure why, the system booted from /dev/hda (CD), the primary harddrive
was /dev/sda and the USB-drive should be /dev/sdb1 - I was actually able
to mount it myself via ssh.

The USB-drive was recognized properly by Askozia 1.0.3...

I really hoped that my ISDN adapter would work out of the box, but it
didn't. I'm not sure if I should blame Askozia here, perhaps Linux in
general. I did try Trixbox 2.8.0.4 and that didn't work either, not by
default and playing with mISDN at least. It did seem to be recognized
somehow, judging by dmesg. (And lspci recognized it.)

The ISDN interface is one based on the Winbond 6692, the Dynalink
IS64PH. Just a simple (and probably cheap) one.

And, hehe, the ISDN card *does* work on Askozia 1.0.3, so yay FreeBSD
;-) That was quite simple actually.

Re: 2.0 Release Candidate 2

Hello All,

I have been trying to boot the this release on a VIA C3 800mhz 512mb
ram appliance that I have used for m0n0wall/pfsense and other firewall
builds.

I get past grub loading to "Booting the Kernel" and a flashing
cursor... then nothing.

Guessing it is processor compatability (I think linux sees the C3 as
an i586 processor, but am not positive).

Any thoughts? I really want this to work, and the via chip would seem
to be perfect for this application as these boxes only use about 10
watts of power under load.

Please help!

Are you using the Embedded Firmware release if the system only has a
serial console? Are you sure the serial terminal settings match? Could
you post a link to that hardware?

The images are built for 486 so everything should work fine unless
those chips are somehow not backward compatible.

Hello Phil,

The webgui is accessible immediately upon boot. The machine acquires
an IP address from your network and, if you know it, you can access
the gui at http://yourip.

No initial configuration is needed. The default username/password is:
admin/askozia

If the machine has a keyboard and monitor, you should use the generic
pc image. The embedded image only supports serial console. The generic
pc image uses keyboard and monitor.

Hello Phil,

please 'reply-all' so your responses go back out to the list and not
only to me ;)

Finding that initial IP is an interesting problem. I've tried my best
to make it easy but there are certainly better methods out there.

The IP is displayed on your screen though after booting, right?

One thing I've implemented is the '0000IP' extension which can tell
you the system's IP. This only accomplishes something if you have an
analog phone hooked up to the system since it requires zero setup.

The only difference between the Generic and Embedded versions are in
the way they handle consoles. They're both equally as write-cycle and
resource friendly.

Not a problem. Glad you like the software.

Re: 2.0 Release Candidate 2

Ok,

So I went with the "generic" install onto CF and the unit booted up into an onscreen menu, I assigned IP and all
was good! ;-)

Seems happy on my 800mhz Via C3 box (512 ram and 256mb CF)
Phil Sieg

Unfortunately i have not been following the thread as closely as I should. I did not realize that there is no
IVR at this point. At this time that is a deal breaker for me. My current system is a PBX in Flash setup with
full auto attendant/IVR and local voicemail.

I am however VERY impressed with the Askozia GUI and ease of use. I do hope that local voicemail and IVR come
along soon. I understand that everyone that contributes to this project is coding their fingers to
nubbins, however is there a best guess on the 2.1 release and the IVR voicemail timeline?

I have been lurking and watching this project from the very beginning just HOPING that this would be the REAL
Asterisk for the average joe. It seems very true to that model at this point.

Great work!

askozia as a guest virtual server

I just came across askozia and I am glad I found it. I do have a few newbie questions, so this will be email 1 of a few.

1) Can askozia be installed as a guest virtual server under vmware, xenserver, hyper-v, etc?

Thanks,

askozia multi-tenant

My next question is:

2) Can askozia be configured in a multi-tenant situation? Meaning each tenant will have its own domain
name, IP, configuration files, etc.

Thanks,
