[ANNOUNCE] DietlibC target

Hi,

my exams period nearly finished (that is only some System Programming
thing left where I should not need to do anything for - since it consist
of bash, sed, awk scripting and poor man's C ...).

I had to notice our dietlibc target does not build and all and the
dietlibc package implementation is quite messy.

I intend to redo it over the next weeks ...

Oh yes. A good argument to leave it as it is for 2.1 - and just improve
the integration so that switching to udev for people using 2.6 is just
flipping one option in stone or so ...

T2 based mini distribution for the Psion Revo (and 5mx)

Hi all,

as I announced previously I'm creating a more size optimized replacement
for the (unmaintained?) revol distribution for the Psion Revo.

The T2 System Development Environment (SDE) - a ROCK Linux successor -
will be used to automatically build the toolchain and packages. I plan
to utilize dietlibc. GCC is of course the latest available - currently
3.4.3.

I also hope to use squashfs, since my previous tests showed a further
size decrease, however the kernel was not able to load the image. I hope
to track this down.

I'll most probalby have the new image at the end of the weekend - other
people are of course invited to contribute ... ;-)

http://www.t2-project.org/

Althought it is not my primary target, the image should be usable on the
Series 5, too. Interested people will also be able to build a lot more
packages into such images.

Sincerely yours,

   René Rebe

RE: [Linux-7110-psion] T2 based mini distribution for the Psion Revo (and 5mx)

Sounds good. Is this for the Revo as well as the Revo plus? It has occured
to me that there is no reason why we cant get a usable PDA Linux system into
at least the Revo Plus - the agenda vr3 has only 16Mb flash. We really, I
guess, only have 8Mb to work with (8Mb ramdisk - 8mb ram - if only we had
a flash rom!).

Regards,

Ed.

Ah yes, sorry. Revo Plus here ;-)

Using T2 just defining 3 sets of packages (Revo, Revo+, 5*) and building
them into images is exactly where T2 helps.

Btw. Do you need picogui? I never found much use for it in revol ...
Maybe it is not worth the space and better place more usable console
software on it ;-)

What do you think?

I personally wouldnt put picogui on...its a good windowing system and it
can be nice to use a terminal window, but other than that I dont think there
are enough applications for it to really be usable.

Re: 2.1.0-beta3 (up to -final) release schedule

well - beta3 is a bit late - but already tagged, x86 built and powerpc
still building (me kicking the slow IBM RS/6k to build faster).

Do you think it is worth to get 2.1.0 out faster (maybe with 2 and a
half issues not as polished) to have 2.1.0 ready for the CeBIT when we
get a place at the Linux New Media AG's OpenBooth? (still unconfirmed ...)

It appears to work here, too.

Thank you!

when is CeBIT? -rc1?
